TalkHorror - Horror Talk For All Horror Fans - Why I think Twilight sucks!

[COLOR="Cyan"]You hear about this damned franchise everywhere and I am tired of it. I have no idea why these books got so popular in the first place. I have read all of them due to: 1. Curiosity 2. Hoping they'd get better 3. To see what all of the fuss was about 4. Free access 5. I'll read anything.
The main character, Bella, is the weakest female I have ever met. She has singlehanded set back the Feminist movement 20 years. "Oh, Edward. I can't live without you!" BLECH:yuck: I have no idea what the appeal is of this character besides she manages to get the big bad vampires attention. And, her saying she'd kill herself if something happened to him after the kid is born really pisses me off. As a mom, I would hate it if something happened to Loki. It might break me, but I would live for my Kid. Stupid twit!
And Edward enables her at every turn. I can't be with you, but don't miss me. WTF! Every time you stub your toe I will be there.
I am just so tired of seeing such articles as "How Twilight ruins your Love Life" or whatever their using for this week. I'm over the age of 16. I don't care which of them is doing who. It's ridiculous when there are 65 year old grandma's in my office going haywire on the next book. GET A LIFE!

If you want to read a real book about love & vampires, go for Charlene Harris Southern Vampire series or the early Anita Blake (the later ones are light on story, heavy on porn).

OH, AND THE CHICK IN THE MOVIE NEVER EVER CLOSES HER MOUTH. SOMEONE NEEDS TO SHOVE A SPARKALY SOMETHING IN THERE! (Now WHY are vampires suppose to sparkle?????)

Okay, I may be in the vast minority here when I say... Twilight is one of the most unsettling books, and films, of the decade o_o .

The sheer fact that this mad creature wants, no, lusts to experience human emotion, only for his kind, who are more familiar with and revel in their common animalistic nature, to hunt down both his "vegetarian" self and his object of deluded desire... was more than simply chilling, but thought-provoking as well.

The book series brought a whole new level of symbolism to the vampire mythos. Vampires as we know them are not based on some archetypical boogeyman, but instead simply on on an idea of the pervert: the preyer on the innocent. The stalker does not lose his power in sunlight in these modern, naive, and often too complacent times, to some, he does in fact sparkle.

There is more to this film than symbolism though. Vampires are actually given supernatural power, almost demigodlike here, that make them much less vulnerable and in fact a much more everpresent threat than in classic representations. When it is only a monster that can stop a monster, what is humankind to do but to be forced to take volatile refuge with the very objects of its' fear?

In the end, it almost seems the main vampire, Edward, shows true humanity in the beating and killing of his own kin. And, since other vampires seem to condone the in-fighting, it truly raises some questions as to whether or not a human can be safe in such company. Would Edward react the same if James were not out to kill someone who he deemed worthy of his affection?

A more unsettling conflict representing traditional human nature has not been as effectively posed in a horror film since the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, and not with such frighteningly conflicting poles of love and hatred since Edward Scissorhands.

I'll be the first to admit that I read lightly, meaning I don't take social commentaries away from anything and all but the most obvious symbolism is lost to me. I am very literal with words. (Maybe because I read for entertainment & haven't read to learn in a while.) The vampires are almost god-like in their abilities. Which is rather scary. But, you see so few mean ones that the threat isn't "real" in the books, at least until the finale. Then, it's usually Bella that's in trouble & I'm rooting for the bad guys.

I guess my main objection is that I am a really strong person. I very rarely lean on anyone. I cannot understand someone that leans on everyone. Stand up, damnit. They show that she is intelligent, but she refuses to go to college. I know people don't like to owe other people, but if Loki said, "Hey. I'll pay for you to go to college anywhere you want." I'd be all about it. But, as a grown up who is trying to figure out how to get to college, I have a very different perspective.

OMG I watched like 10 minutes of this movie and found it to be so boring. And honestly the best thing Robert Pattinson has ever played well, was dead in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

I have a few years on you Friday, but that's fine. Kid liked it. I agree, Jersey. That was his best part.

We've seen all of the HP, love them and waiting anxiously on the next ones, th last book is going to be 2 movies. He plays Cedric Diggory in GOF.
