- The project is still in the talking stages, as original creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez are interested in returning to the films, but it's all up to Lionsgate, who owns the rights.
- Writers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez have said that the film would ignore the previous sequel and take place shortly after the events of the first film.
- Original actors Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams may have brief cameo appearances in one form or another.
- It's said that the film would rely less on characters speaking directly to the camera, and more on something called "mixed first-person".
- The original script was said to be a prequel set in 1786 where the Blair Witch legend originated from. The premise was written as follows: "This film chronicles the events that led to the township of Blair driving an accused witch named Elizabeth Kedward into the woods, and the subsequent hauntings that plaqued the town for decades after her supposed death."
- A script was written and sent to Lionsgate (who owns the rights) back in 2004, with hopes of it going into production, but it never happened.
- This project has been in talks for almost a decade.

I actually didn't like the 1st, or the 2nd.
I liked the first a whole lot, but that's a nigh-impossible premise to follow up effectively; it was the premise itself that really holds up as scary IMO, adding a whole mythos doesn't help this one
I like neither 1 or 2...
I mean it didn't take them coming out for me to know it was FAKE lol.
Meh, I honestly didn't care that it was fake; the idea that it could be real was very interesting to me and added a good backstory to the flick (forged as it was).

The problem is "fictional filmmakers pretending to be real filmmakers lost in the woods" doesn't lend well to a creative sequel, and the much more standard part 2 didn't even try XP
I mean other then it being "Fake" it just sucked horribly...
I don't think so, I think it built up a great atmosphere even though they didn't show any monster or what not; made me wonder who or what was setting up those sticks and stones and what they'd find trying to get out of the forest. It had some great subtleties in building up suspense (The stories, the kid getting freaked out...) and you could actually care for the characters once it got into the plot.
I had a chance to meet with Eduardo Sánchez and he was talking about a proposed script idea and that he would be behind it... unlike the sequel. I still don't think it's a good idea.
Me either Freddy's Fingers....
Nice!
I didn't like the Blair Witch Project, but BW 2 is great.
Blair Witch 2 was on SyFy earlier today.
Nice. With news like this, I hope someone plans on making, Battlefield Earth 2 next.
/sarcasm.
