I'm not sure if I've seen this or not. It certainly sounds familiar...

It's only available in VHS but definitely worth watching if you can find it.

Is this Dark Night of the Scarecrow?

Thats what i wondered also if it was really Dark Night of the Scarecrow. If it is then you all might find this info exciting. Yes, Dark Night of the Scarecrow is still only available on VHS. But hopefully not for long. It was scheduled to be released on DVD in 2009. But the negotiations fell thru with. BUT, it is supposed to be getting a definite 2010 DVD release! No exact date just yet tho. Hopefully soon. That was one of my favorites to watch. It was a made for television horror movie back in the 80s. It originally aired on CBS on October 24, 1981. Was directed by Frank De Fillita. And it also starred Larry Drake who played Bubba. Drake was later well known for playing in Dr. Giggles! I recommend seeing this movie. It may be hard to find since it is only on VHS still. But maybe check ebay or something and see if you can find yourself a copy of it. I own this movie and just had to have it for my huge collection!

It was a really freaky movie! The ending, with the actual scarecrow... was frightening for me back when I was younger. But, I think I am the only one that would not want to see this on DVD. I think popping in an old VHS copy of it would bring back more memories then seeing it on DVD.

Nothing exciting happens in this horror movie. All is extremely standard, all is expected, and you keep having this 'deja-vu' feeling despite the fact that you did not see the film before. No wonder, it looks like some collection of quotes from gothic literature that you have already read and from other many class-B horror movies that you have already seen. I cannot point to something bad either. Acting is not good or bad, just medium TV-level stuff. Effects are no worse or repulsive than in many other movies that belong to the genre. It is just...boring. Avoid this film, unless all other channels broadcast only cricket or baseball games (no offense intended - replace those by the two sports that you cannot understand)

It's a made for TV movie but when you see it at a young age, you're impression will always stick with you.

Exactly FreddysFingers. Horror movies from the 70s and 80s even some in the 90s are all pretty lack luster to some degree or another. No one ever really goes to a horror movie for its awesome script writing, although those that are hardcore towards a particular francise may be more critical towards things like that. But stand alone horror movies like this are all going to seem a bit familiar. Partly due to the fact that so many horror movies tend to inspire other horror movies. Dark Night of the Scarecrow was released in Oct. of 1981. Now while it may hold true that this movie was most likely inspired by movies like Halloween, and Friday The 13th. This movie was still one of the firsts of its kind. So anything made after this, you could hypothesize and say it was inspired by Dark Night of the Scarecrow. I remember when the original Black Christmas started to get more widely known and people wanted to criticise it and immediately accuse the movie of ripping off Halloween. How could that be? Black Christmas was made in 1974. So if anything Halloween was inspired by Black Christmas. Dark Night of the Scarecrow, as a made for television movie is considered one of the absolute best horror movies ever made for television alone.

My thoughts exactly!!
In fact, if Black Christmas didn't exist... we probably won't have Halloween.
Very rarely do we find a made-for-TV movie, back then, that was that scary. It's like saying the original Dracula isn't scary. You have to look at it from a 30s or 40s perspective... they never saw anything like this. I had a chance to meet the screenwriter for Dark Night of the Scarecrow and he doesn't understand where all the hate comes from.

Yes, i agree. And im happy to see that you understand where im coming from here. It truly is a movie that hasnt gotten the recognition that it should. Im not exactly sure where the hate comes from either, other then a lack of understanding that this is a made for television horror movie and possibly thinking that it came out much later therefore some people think its ripped off other francises. Which isnt the case at all. And i understand the fact that this movie may not be scary to the current generation of horror fans out there. And i dont expect it to be. Much like i dont find thee ole black n white horror movies scary. But i can say that i have an appreciation for those films of their time and give those movies their props. Because without those movies
we could not have had "our" movies of our own generation and generations to come.

This teen that lives with his Mom kills a girl by accident. So he doesn't get in trouble, his Mom hides him in the wall of their house where he stays all the time. One day she dies and he does not know that. So he stays in the wall. One day, a new family moves into the house and they don't realize he is still living there. So Ronald watches them from peep holes in the wall and crazy things go on. A very good movie. The Warner Brothers shop sells this and a few other classics like Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark and Razorback now. Check out their site, the movies run like $15.00-$20.00. I got my Bad Ronald for $15.00 with free UPS delivery. Not a bad deal.

"Night of the Scarecrow" is a typical horror movie from 90's.The production is slick and polished, the acting ranks from acceptable to lame and the special effects are mostly cool. There are some graphic gore scenes,so the gore-hounds will not be disappointed. It's a decent movie however I prefer earlier "Scarecrows"(1988,William Wesley),which is not only gory, but also creepy as hell.In conclusion, this is sometimes nonsensical, but quite enjoyable picture so you should give it a chance.

I saw a movie that had a young girl talk to a wall and then the abusive mother comes in and says "stop talking to the thing in the wall!" I always thought that movie was Bad Ronald... that was until I saw Bad Ronald and I confused that with The People Under the Stairs.
