I'm still in the process of building up a good Horror DVD collection. I could use some help though as far as the best, mandatory Horror movies to own. What ones are must owns?
NOTE that not all these are necessarily "the best" of their kind, but they are "the classics" that most every horror buff knows Wink

----

Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Child's Play franchises

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Exorcist collection

Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness

Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead

Psycho and Psycho II (Or just get the whole franchise since you can buy the sequels for cheap)

An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, Ginger Snaps

Fright Night, The Lost Boys, Near Dark

Misery, Carrie, and The Shining

The Silence of the Lambs

----

If you've got those, I'd suggest you follow up with:

hellraiser 1 & 2

Phantasm

American Psycho

Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator

Suspiria, Tenebre and Deep Red

Audition

The Ring and Ringu

Maniac

Saw franchise

Rosemary's Baby

The Omen

Leprechaun franchise

The Thing

Alien and Predator

Basket Case

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

Puppet Master

Gremlins

Candyman

The Wicker Man

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

The Burning

for me... urm I'm sure you all know what would be mandatory in my Horror collection.
For those of you who don't know - That would be all of the Friday The 13th flicks.

Do you have any favorites or do you enjoy all of them equally?

I can't say equally.
But it's hard to choose a favorite lol.

My least favorite is Jason Goes To Hell.

And while most ppl hate Jason X, I actually like it.

unique list
Cabin Fever
Hostel I & II
From Dusk till Dawn series
Planet Terror
The Ring & Ringu
Funny Games (remake)
Final Destination 1,2 & 3
The Shining

Those are just off the top of my head and most favorite ones
i spit on your grave is to hard to find on dvd

But then, so is Madman. I just wanted to compile a list of "often discussed" films so HH would get a good base knowledge of the genre "classics" and "semi-classics" (Which in Goreman's defense, "Spit" may well be) Smile

Cabin Fever is a GOOD ONE! Underrated! :bowow:
I would have to agree that for any collection the Friday films, Nightmares, Halloweens, Texas Chainsaw, Childs Play are all most haves for any collection. I have been collecting horror movies for many years. I have around 500 horror movies so far in my collection. Other then that i would have to recommend...

Black Christmas (the original) NOT the remake
Basket Case 1,2 & 3
Killer Party
Hellraiser 1 & 2 at least
Prom Night
Silent Night, Deadly Night 1 & 2 at least
He Knows You're Alone
Slaughter High
Intruder
Hell Night
My Bloody Valentine (the original)
The Entity
Witchboard
Dolls
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Night of the Comet
Christine
Happy Birthday To Me (some like it, some dont..i actually liked it)
Amityville Horror (original NOT the remake)

Thats for starters anyway. All old movies i know, but im from that era! lol
I have a predilection for oldies but goodies:

The Haunting (1950s, original) with Julie Harris, Russ Tamblyn
Carnival of Souls (1962, B&W)
Nosferatu (1922, original)
The Last Man on Earth (original) with Vincent Price

are just a few of my favorites. And my advice, when seeking out genre golden nuggets, always look for the original first. Most of the remakes are crap...

Happy Hunting! Smile

**Edit**
Oooh, thought of another one:
The Cars That Ate Paris it's an Australian film. Not sure of the year, but it's one of my favorites. Smile
Another odd one to have is Blood Car
