I just watched this last night, and I'm unsure about it. It was nice to see old school zombies again. At times, it reminded me of Night of The Living Dead. Especially at the end. I found the lead character (the girl) to be quite a bit annoying at times as well. Did anyone else have that problem?
Not my favourite chapter in the Romero series... But I really like the scene with the zombies walking around the swimming pool.
I enjoyed it. A few of the characters were annoying, but that's the point. I think it was smart and generation savvy for George to incorporate blogs & you tube videos into the movie. This is how people were communicating about the outbreak across the world. Nice touch.
Did you spot Quentin's appearance? He is one of the news readers...
I enjoyed it. Some great new zombie kills of the week... (Jar of acid scene I'm looking at you!)

I agree with this. The whole 'through the handheld viewfinder' isn't really new, but I think he worked it pretty well, especially with in the blogs/youtube context.

Ha! Ditto on the Jar of Acid. Wink

I just saw this a few nights ago. I'll concur that it isn't Romero's best, but I thought it was pretty good. Some of the characters were pills, yeah, but I liked the eternally drunk professor waxing philosophic (despite the stereotype). Good ending too - definitely a Romero ending.

No, I totally missed Quentin! Guess I'll have to watch it again. Big Grin
I found it to be very disappointing. I think a found footage film that depicts zombies was a great idea but maybe Romero wasn't a tech savvy guy.
I enjoyed it..not one of his best , but still a good movie :pirate:
I have yet to see Survival of the Dead. Some people say it's amazing, others say it was the last nail in the casket.
Diary was terrible. Survival is enough to make you want to drown yourself. I love Romero's old stuff but both of these are abominable.
It was okay, nothing special .... as was the acting. The idea was pretty good, but George didn't bring his best to the table.

He is still directing like we're in the 70's or 80's, which is ok - but when the writing and dialogue are off, it just magnifies other areas.

I went in not expecting much and came away with a "ho-hum" feeling.
I keep saying, George should hang up the zombies and maybe focus on other horror movies that don't have zombies. If the studios would let him. But, I have do have quite a soft spot for Land of the Dead.

Oh, you're not alone Freddy. I really like "Land" myself. George teased us big time with that film. He brought buzz and excitement back to the genre.

Which is conversely why people are so critical of "Diary". There was a ton of hype and anticipation for the movie. George had me after "Land", because I really thought that was the new beginning for his zombie films.
I think it might be due to the fact that he was trying to revamp the beginning of the zombie outbreak by putting it into a culture he doesn't quite understand. The technology culture. Even I don't understand half of it. I think Land was his last good film.

I agree, man.
I agree. Land really wasn't as black as it was painted. It was the last Romero film I did think hit a mark - even if it wasn't as good as his previous zombie work.

Personally though I'd rather go back and rewatch something like Martin than ever contemplate watching Diary or Survival again - so maybe it is time for him to try another area of the genre again.
I loved Land of the Dead, Im a huge zombie fan, so anythng by George Romero is good in my eyes. Dawn of the Dead 78 is my all time fav movie, and got me into horror movies as a kid, the rumor mill is George Romero has a few more Dead films planned. I really liked Diary, and Survival of the Dead. not his best, but still very good. George Romero always comes up with new ways to kill zombies, or zombie kill the living that no one will touch. The Acid zombie was awesome in Diary.
