Dorothy, the character that Judy Garland made famous in 1939, isn’t going to be in Kansas anymore...again.

According to Yahoo! Movies, Warner Brothers is looking to build another teen franchise after its Harry Potter series wraps and they have their eyes set on The Wizard of Oz.

Two separate projects are being developed, one by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After) and one by Josh Olson (A History of Violence).

Lemke’s version is said to not include any musical numbers and would follow author L. Frank Baum’s original material.

Olson’s version however would be set closer to the present time and would likely be of the darker variety.

Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the book that The Wizard of Oz is based on, is only the first story in a 14 book series. All of the books are part of public domain, but the film is not. So any reproduction of an element from the film's story and not the book will have rights fees.

Oh Yay! More classics to be screwed up
Surprise! Party
If you're trying to make it closer to the original material, why are you making it dark and teen-oriented? o.o

Yeeah... I'm thinking this one could go either way... *fingers crossed* Hopefully it's not a butchered attempt and actually works. A darker Wizard of Oz would be enticing......(*sigh* if properly executed)

Thanks Lilith! Smile :khead:
I hate that movie lol

I agree a darker version may go better.

Your welcome! I can admit i am pretty skeptical with any remake, no matter if its a horror movie or otherwise. And i critique them on everything. But i still try to give them a chance. And you are right...if its done well it can be good. So were just gonna have to wait and see what happens here. I am curious about their choices to play certain characters though. Sometimes that can make all the difference.
