Now i realize that probably no one on here will know who Sammy Terry is or maybe think im wasting space writing this...but Sammy Terry is still well known and loved here where i live and i just wanted to take the time out tonight to remember Sammy(even tho he is still alive) and reminisce about the old days of watching horror movies that he hosted. So respectfully here i go....
Sammy Terry!
Sammy Terry a character played by Bob Carter, is Indianas most legendary iconic host of late night horror movies of all time! Bob Carter born in 1929, sorry couldnt find an actual date of birth. Bob Carter is a native of Decatur, Illinois and graduated from college there. Carter moved to Indianapolis in 1961. Bob has done a numerous things in his career, including the hosting of a 3 hour morning talk show called Coffee With Carter! But Bob Carter is mostly known for playing the scary late night horror host, Sammy Terry! Which is actually derived from the word "Cemetery". Bob Carter has been playing Sammy Terry since the 1960's thru some of the 1980's. His show started out being titled Carter's Shock Theater, where Carter did voice overs for still pictures during the commercial breaks. This later inspired the birthing of the character Sammey Terry. Where this character would be dressed up to look scary and would host late night horror movies!
The show would later be renamed Nightmare Theater. Sammy Terry over the years gatherd such a large cult following. Everyone loves Sammy Terry. But they also remember when Sammy Terry used to scare the hell out of them also. I remember when i was little back in the 80s my mom used to watch his show and he scared the shit out of me. I used to hide behind my mom when he would come on. But over time, i gradually started coming around and i couldnt wait until the next weekend would come around so i could watch him again. I think Sammy Terry was one of the first reasons why i started to love horror movies! I even remember the very first movie i was able to watch by myself that he hosted and it was Hell Night, starring Linda Blair! I stayed up all night by myself and watched Sammy Terry ALONE! I did it! I was so happy. LOL. Sammy also known and loved for his trade mark laugh, one of those laughs that many has tried to copy, but only Sammy can do! That laugh used to scare me to, until i got used to it. Sammy Terry also had a few sidekicks, his most famous sidekick was a rubber spider that hung down beside him on a string. The spiders name was George, and only Sammy Terry could understand what George was saying. Because George spoke gibberish. There was also a servant named Ghoulsby, The Boogeyman, and a woman servant named Wilameana. In the 80s there was a castle that could be seen through one of the dungeons windows and a witch was supposed to be living in the castle. You could hear her laugh sometimes in the dungeon, but its believed that she never actually appeared on camera. Fans have begged for Sammy Terrys shows to be put on DVD so they could purchase them and take a trip down memory lane. But unfortunately i have heard that most of the original footage was destroyed in a fire. But thanks to loyal fans and followers some footage has surfaced due to old VHS recordings. Some of these shows can actually be bought now on the Official Sammy Terry website along with other awesome collectibles! After Sammys show was taken off the air around the late 80s he made seasonal appearances on TV for Halloween and appeared in person at various locations to meet with fans etc. Today Sammy Terry is around 80 years old and still makes appearances when he can. Bob Carter has battled health issues that caused him to cancel several appearances these days. And there have even been rumors that Bob Carter passed away. Those rumors are false. Sammy is still alive! And we hope that he gets better. We wish him the best and we hope he has "many pleasant nightmares!". We love you Bob Carter/Sammy Terry!
Here is the famous scary intro for Sammy Terrys Show! Well, it was scary back then! Now its one of my ringtones! lol Oh, and yes, those are yellow playtex dish washing gloves! hehe There are alot better clips of the Sammy Terry show then this, but youtube doesnt have much. Theres clips of some really funny moments that i wish i could find.
