FreddysFingers Wrote:Paranormal Activity 3 - Prequel to 2 about the sisters.
Paranormal Activity 4 - Sequel to the 1st.
Paranormal Activity 4.5 - Spinoff prequel to the 3rd that takes place in the 1800s.
Paranormal Activity 5 - Sequel to the 4th.
Paranormal Activity 6 - New family but takes place in the city.
Paranormal Activity 7 - Sequel to the 6th... in space.
Paranormal Activity 8 - Straight to DVD sequel to the 7th in 'da hood.'
Agreed, but make the one in the 1800s an actual sequel, then probably remove part 5 (No wai!! Teh audiences will get bored n' confuzled if dey need 2 watch teh original 2 understand da sequel!1!) and part 7 (I can't imagine self-respecting studios taking
another chance with what has become known as such a sure franchise-killer... plus, they would actually need creativity and a bigger budget to pull off a movie about paranormal activity in space

).
So it'd be
Paranormal Activity 1 - A good, but not classic horror film
Paranormal Activity 2 - The sequel that was OK quality wise but grew to be widely hated for one or two "unforgivable" reasons
Paranormal Activity 3 - The one that totally screws up continuity by having way too much "ambition". This one has a bigger budget and doesn't use POV. It concerns the sisters as teenagers realizing they have a demon problem and becoming extreme ghost-hunters to fight it. The film plays out like a slasher for the most part with the girls' dumb teenage friends being killed in implausible ways, until the heroines find the inner strength to take on "the evil" (which manifests itself in a ghostly wind), and force it into a CGI energy portal. Why they don't mention any of this film's events later on... is because the writers got too ahead of themselves and threw in every stupid and cliche idea they could despite nothing fitting into continuity.
Paranormal Activity 4: Old Souls (or something vaguely cryptic yet cheesy and unthreatening like that) - The first direct to video installment. Advertised on TV and on flash ads ad-nauseum (BUY THE SPECIAL UNRATED EDITION TOO BRUTAL FOR THE FIVE THEATERS THIS FILM PLAYED IN FOR TWO DAYS). Basically a rehash of part 3, but with a lot more boring drama and period costumes thrown in, plus inevitable muddled references to witchcraft. This is the one where the "series rules" are established, the origins are explained, and any mystery goes down the drain.
Paranormal Activity 5 - This one actually goes to theaters under a stupid title like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: REQUIEM. Frequently touted as "the best one yet!1!" with the possessed Katie returning. Unfortunately, she's only in about 20 minutes of an 80 minute film (20 minutes that fans are brutally divided on the quality of). The rest of the film concerns an offscreen slasher killing off the friends of someone who may or may not have a connection to Katie from the first film (it turns out she does).
Paranormal Activity 666 - Another direct to video installment. This one goes back to the POV technique, but unfortunately has not one iota of the realism the first film did. Concerns a single mom living in an apartment with her daughter. The mother begins to get worried for her life when she finds her daughter making creepy crayon drawings. Instead of the demon, the apartment is haunted by the ghost of a serial killer and his victims, who somehow kidnap the daughter leaving it necessary for the mom to find the inner strength to banish them in a stilted sequence of suspense-devoid talking to CGI.
Paranormal Activity: Paranormal Hood - 6 black coeds from "the hood" decide to stay in an apartment for no reason that's stated in the film. Has the POV style, but the cinematography is fatally awful. The camerawork is perhaps intentionally awful to disguise the fact that this sequel actually has no paranormal activity clearly occurring on-screen. Instead, we have the camera flailing around wildly, often in near-darkness while mostly incoherent cries of "OH JESUS WAT WUZ THAT??!" "DAMN, YOU SEE THAT THING??" "AW SHIT, I MEAN THAT THING WUZ... THAT THING WUZ... DAYUM!" and vague, incredulous descriptions of character death and disappearance are heard.
Untitled Paranormal Activity sequel - Abandoned by its creators (True Paranormal Activity fanboys looking to clear up a multitude of plot holes), after being hit by delay after lawsuit after delay after lawsuit.
Paranormal Activity '20 - Allegedly a remake of the original, actually a remake of part 3 disguised as a remake of the original, with the more franchise-friendly serial killing ghost from part 666 being the villain instead of the unseen demon.
Paranormal Activity: The Activity Begins - Half hearted prequel to the remake concerning the serial killer's super-villainous exploits before becoming a ghost at the very end. Actually based on a completely unrelated script that the producers thought "would be more marketable as a tie-in to Paranormal Activity".
