Another one I found on Netflix, and a damn good chase-heavy slasher ...for half of the film anyway. This is, of course, taking into account the fact that it is a modern slasher and there are few good ones now.
Though it is heavy on cliche in places ("this isn't funny!"), some real creepy moments had me thinking the writer and/or director had their shit together and really wanted a good film.
Now, back to the "slasher for half of the film" idea. Near the end, the film stops being a slasher and turns into a psychological thriller, and as with many thrillers the ending is weaker than what precedes it. It IS clever, in fact, the twist made my jaw drop... it's just a little implausible and not pulled off quite as well as it could have been in my humble opinion.
Still, The Maze is a great effort which makes me want to see more from the filmmakers. I give it a 6.5/10 and my strong recommendation.
