Caro all of that said to me you're feeling a whole lack of control over aspects of your life.

Whatever your family/friends/anyone on the damn planet does - let them. Just don't even concentrate on it. Don't do anything but concentrate on you. If they see you've got your own things going on they may well wish to be part of that. Whether you want them to or not will be up to you. But deal with your immediate situation - don't dwell on theirs at all because they will do what they wish whether you care about it or not.
