Hey, since my last what-if was positively regarded and it's still gonna be a while until the main site pops up, I'll preview another what-if with you guys. This one is a little less humorous, but not entirely serious either, and hopefully still interesting talk-material:
In the beginning of Child's Play (1988), we find that Charles Lee Ray's reincarnation into the doll body he's been stuck in for years is an indirect result of a botched bank robbery, and betrayal by his partner Eddie Caputo.
The audience later learns that Chucky was once known as "The Lakeshore Strangler," that he has learned more Voodoo than the spell needed to place his soul in the doll's body, and in later films that he rather enjoys killing, presumably moreso than robbing banks.
My question is: what was the relation between Charles Ray and Eddie Caputo? The bank robbery Chucky was betrayed during seems to be the only non-murder he's guilty of, and likewise Eddie seems to be the only person Chucky is "friends" with who he wasn't fucking and/or learning arcane Voodoo rituals from. It's odd; like most slashers, Chucky doesn't seem to be the type to use accomplices unless they directly benefit him. Was Chuck in financial dire straights at the time? Was he on good terms with Eddie at one point and owed him a favor?
Chucky seems very quick to kill Eddie in revenge once gaining his doll body, and doesn't say much more about him, leaving him a pretty damn mysterious figure within the series' limited "mythology." One wonders if Caputo has any anecdotes about his murderous partner in whichever afterlife he got blown to...
