I'd say its great storytelling.
Even better, make him a vamp AND a good guy! Fighting his own evil, monstrous nature...

The movie wasn't that bad.
But I got more laughs from it then scares.

What gets me more is that according to the alternate endings the other Frog brother is now a bloodsucker; I liked the team dynamic a lot... :/
