Shutter Island - FreddysFingers - 02-22-2010 My friend saw the very end of this movie (and by that I mean the credits) and he said there is a pretty freaky old song that plays during them. Shutter Island - Friday The 13th - 02-22-2010 huh Shutter Island - FreddysFingers - 03-05-2010 Brilliantly made film!!!! Too much to talk about in one setting. BUT VERY GOOD. Shutter Island - That_ghoul_ava - 03-07-2010 I'm hoping to see this today. I remember the book being excellent. Shutter Island - mrblue - 03-12-2010 I think the doctor in this movie would of been a good dr loomis replacment in the halloween remakes instead of malcolm mcdowell Shutter Island - ashikkerib - 03-12-2010 I thought the performances were great, though I wouldn't highlight Leo DiCaprio in this role, since he's pretty much doing the same thing throughout. Both Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo pull off a pretty amazing balancing act between sympathy and menace that's held throughout the whole movie. The twist ending didn't bother me - it unfolds so gradually throughout the movie you pretty much figure it out before the 'a-ha' moment. I mostly just get annoyed that I can't openly discuss it. I think I'd enjoy it more a second time, knowing full well what was going on from the get-go. There were more than a few things that bothered me about this movie. For one thing, all the talkative conspiracy theory stuff is so hard to hear if you've known people who believe in similar stuff. I'm thinking of the scene in the cave, in particular. I can't believe Scorsese let that go on for so long. Except for some of the dream sequences, really enjoyed the imagery. Nice to see something that impressionistic and frankly weird in a mainstream movie. It's generally successful in creating an atmosphere reminiscent of Hitchcock, echoes of David Lynch. Though David Lynch has been at this game longer, and most of his movies are slightly more successful than this one. Plus, it's meant to steer the audience into another world of conspiracy. Shutter Island - ashikkerib - 03-13-2010 FreddysFingers Wrote:I don't think the cave scene was that bad. I do want to see it again, but at the time it bothered me that a movie that hinged so much on the subtle menace behind everyday speech and occurrences decided to make a point so obviously, with a lot of dialogue and a character that exists only to deliver that speech. It just seemed like a weak choice. Shutter Island - sheilashock - 03-13-2010 I thought Shutter Island was well done. (Let's not forget it was adapted from a novel...always risky making a great book into a film)... Not a horror movie. Psych thriller, yes... and a good one in my opinion. I'm not usually a Leo Dicaprio fan, but I thought he did a good job in the role he was given. Other performances (Ben Kingsley, Mark Ruffalo, etc.) were nicely executed... and well, the story in itself is a good one... Hmm. Let's just say, I wasn't bored watching this one. :claaaap: But, of course, each to their own... :khead: Shutter Island - Psycho Stitch - 03-13-2010 Didn't really like this movie thought it made no sence Shutter Island - CarolinePar - 03-21-2010 FreddysFingers Wrote:Looks like there is a horror movie that I need to see soon. ![]() are there any "inside jokes" to other parts of Leo's film history? me and a friend were trying to think where "finding" the Titanic necklace would be a funny reminder and a big joke to the audiance in his other films he's done since then (ideas anyone???) Shutter Island - TravisLegge - 03-23-2010 Looks fun. Definitely on the "will see soon" list.
