OK... 3-D notwithstanding, how do you feel about the prospect of a big budget horror movie made by Oscar nominated talent instead of music video hacks remaking classics?

OMG!OMG!OMG! Del Toro! Cameron! Lovecraft! - NicoleMayCanaday - 08-02-2010

it's about effn time.

OMG!OMG!OMG! Del Toro! Cameron! Lovecraft! - FreddysFingers - 08-02-2010

William Friedkin made The Exorcist and later went on to make Bug so I can vouch for this movie being good. (Yeah, I actually liked Bug).

Amazing that it's finally happening again - this is the kind of thing critics change the genre to "thupernatuwal thwilluh" for so they don't "get embarrassed" by praising a horror film XD.

With no disrespect to Lovecraft though, what I'd really hope for is an Oscar nominated director helming an ORIGINAL horror screenplay with a big budget sometime in the future Wink

@Freddy'sFingers - I believe DarkSideofFilm liked Bug. I own it and haven't watched it yet so there's still a chance I'd like it Smile

Ahh Thanks Nicole I could use the delux version to replace the non cool version I own haha.

OMG!OMG!OMG! Del Toro! Cameron! Lovecraft! - FreddysFingers - 08-04-2010

Biggs, plz watch Bug and tell me what you think. If you say it's terrible I'll curl up into a corner and cry myself to sweet death.

Have that on your conscience. Wink

It's also non-cool, except for having a trailer (I think) and modern 3D - the cool version of part 3 is only on Blu-Ray -_-

Any critic worth their salt would know better than to try to call Lovecraft's work a "psychological thriller." It would be a pure act of ignorance or dishonesty. In either case, any critic caught doing that should be stomped in the nuts with golf cleats.

An original story would be nice, but maybe this is just what we need to break the seal to getting better quality original stuff done. Of course, you have to remember, some of the greatest horror movies ever were based on literature: "The Exorcist", "Psycho", "Rosemary's Baby" - just to name a few.

Dammit, now I'm going to have to add "Bug" to the list of movies I have to watch.

That applies to you now too Terror. :eg:

What? Calling HPL's work "psychological thrillers?" If I ever do that - though calling them "weird tales" is acceptable since that was the term he used for them - you are more than welcome to come down here, light my crotch on fire and then beat the fire out with a baseball bat that has some nails driven through it.

Just sayin'.

Nope. You must watch Bug, just like Briggs, and if you hate it... I will crawl into a corner and cry myself to sweet death. Big Grin

It is a rather creepy trailer and looks pretty good. It seems like Del Toro is putting his name on a lot of potentially good indie movies, which means more originality. My friend said the monster at the end of this trailer is "a cross between a Gremlin and a Descent monster."
