I am quite excited for the next 5 years in horror - Dr. Briggs - 07-27-2009

I've just realized this today, but it seems like producers just might be getting the idea that remakes aren't all the public wants, we may actually be getting some nice followups as opposed to rehashes of horror movies, not to mention some thrilling new ideas as well!

For starters, it seems like a good many sequels are coming: Saw VI, Strangers Part 2, Jeepers Creepers: Cathedral, Puppet Master: Axis of Evil, Demonic Toys 2... all apparantly coming by 2011! Honestly it's pretty nice knowing my generation has a good number of horror franchises to call their own, but most of all I'm glad for the fact that these are followups to some really kickass movies, instead of say, remakes Wink .

It was when I was looking up info for Saw VI that I realized what some alumni are going to be starring in, most notably the most interesting living Saw character and the least interesting one Tongue .

First of all, though it makes me doubt he will be doing Saw VI after all, seems Cary "Dr. G" Elwes will be starring in two very different, but both scary-sounding horror films: "Psych 9" and "As Good as Dead". On the flip side Mark "Erickson" Rolston is going to be in one called "Taxidermist" (Alongside Leslie Easterbrook, Mother Firefly from The Devil's Rejects).

In addition to that, it seems like there are 2 promising looking psychological-thriller-type horror movies about to be released very soon: A Perfect Getaway and The Collector. They both actually look pretty damn original and well done to boot; pretty much the stuff Untraceable and Amusement SHOULD have been.

So, does this make anyone else's day like it makes mine? On that note is there anything you fellas are looking forward to? Smile

I like Remakes though Sad
I know they are (Hated) but it does give things a new view/twist.
And Remakes can help the originals! I mean 50 years from now some people may not have heard of the originals until they watch the Remakes.

But at least to me, remakes really don't usually don't make the grade... Plus they've been spammed out in my humble opinion to the point where alotta fans think horror is all remakes nowadays >.< . If stuff like Psych 9 or Taxidermist make it big, horror might have a big resurgence so like the 2010s could be the new "80s" (Or more likely "90s"), at least I hope so!

Wait a minute. Briggsy, I know you can't remember, or were not even born, but horror WAS spammed in the 80's. Mass saturation of the genre in theaters.

Yes that would be good (At least I think) to be honest... As long as we get some original storylines, and not just one type of subgenre! As you said I wasn't alive in the 80s but it seemed to me there was a pretty damn good variety; slashers most people remember, but there were some good vampire films, ghost stories, monster movies, deformed creatures, killer dolls, killer animals... We've got some of those today but I don't imagine they get half as much time to shine as they did back in the day (Then, since I wasn't around then I don't truly know...)
