What If? - Lilith - 04-26-2010 Found this interesting article basically about what if the original actor or actress originally picked out to play in a movie, how would it have been any different from the actual movie along with the actor or actress they ended up with for the movie. One movie i remember was The Exorcist, its not included here in this article, but thought id throw it in. Dana Plato, from Different Strokes was originally picked to play the part of Regan, Linda Blairs character. Apparently, Dana's mother refused to let her daughter play that part. I heard about that a long time back. Someone else was originally picked to play the mother to, but i forget who that was, but sure i could find out. Anyway, i wonder how that would have turned out, if Dana had taken that role. Anyway, on with some other goodies..... The Actual Article..... Not to say it wouldn't be the contemporary classic that it is today, but 'The Matrix' would've taken us down a whole different rabbit hole had Will Smith not passed on the role of Neo, opening the door for Keanu Reeves to don the dark trench coat. Can anyone really imagine The Fresh Prince uttering lines like "Whoa, déjà vu" with the same sense of stunned bewilderment? How about if Ralph Macchio went time-traveling as Marty McFly, or Tom Cruise danced his heart out as Ren McCormack? Rarely does a project in Hollywood start and finish with the same lead actors attached. Just see this summer's thriller 'Salt,' where the role of Angelina Jolie's wrongly accused spy Evelyn Salt was originally to be played by Cruise (as EDWIN Salt, natch). We thought it'd be amusing to give these 15 casting fun facts -- actors (reportedly or rumoredly) originally attached or offered the roles you see below -- some visual representation. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
What If? - Maxx88 - 04-26-2010 Actually, with Back to the Future they wanted Michael J. Fox, but due to schedule conflicts had to get the other guy. But, he sucked so bad at the part they just decided to wait until Fox's schedule freed up. *The more you know* What If? - mrblue - 04-26-2010 What if christopher lee played dr loomis instead of donald pleasance in halloween? What If? - FreddysFingers - 04-26-2010 Al Pacino and Meg Ryan in PRETTY WOMAN would be sickening. Seeing Travolta in BENJAMIN BUTTON would be funny as fuck! Imagine an old wrinkled John Travolta walking around in crouches at the age of 7 or 8. Eddie Murphy in ROGER RABBIT would be ass garbage. I couldn't see him as an alcoholic. Although a sassy New York Cop... I could see. Mel Gibson as JFK... no! I would totally watch HOME ALONE with Robert DeNiro. Although what made Joe Pesci so funny was the fact that he was short, stubby and mumbled to himself. DeNiro could be funny but not Pesci funny. I can buy Tom Hanks in FIELD OF DREAMS. Sadly, I could see Russell Crowe in LORD OF THE RINGS. I could also buy Tom Cruise in FOOTLOOSE What If? - Dr. Briggs - 04-26-2010 Matrix w/Smith - No. Smith ain't "low-key" enough, too much emotion for the type of role Day Off w/Depp - Yes. Depp could play Bueller just as good as Broderick if he could channel a slightly lower-pitched "Willy Wonka" at that age Pretty Woman w/Pacino & Ryan - Yes. Might actually be considered a classic, in my eyes as well Speed w/Grieco - Not really familiar with the actor. The vibe he gives me is that he'd be about the same-quality-with-different-delivery Benjamin Button w/Travolta - On the fence. Only seen a bit of the film but I could imgaine Travolta pulling it off... then, I cqan imagine him making BB look totally stupid as well Back to the Future w/Macchio - Adequate. But nowhere near the awesomely perfect "exasperated but willing good guy" fit J. Fox was Clockwork w/...Tim Curry? - If that is Tim Curry, then it would be too overt. McDowall can blend in a lot better as a psycho masquerading as a good-but-no-good kid, you'd probably figure something was wrong with Curry's DeLarge too early to let him get near you Thelma/Louise w/Griffith & Davis - I wanna see this film but I haven't. The actresses just sort of blend in with anything I see'em in ![]() Roger Rabbit w/Murphy - No. Murphy's generally too happy looking to portray the detective JFK w/Gibson - No. It just don't work Home Alone w/DeNiro - What Freddy'sFingers said. I could see him being a bumbling crook but not near as iconic as Pesci's bumbling crook Field of Dreams w/Hanks - About the same I'd imagine Lord of the Rings w/Crowe - Noooooo...... Footloose w/Cruise - It'd be a lot, lot more generic I'd imagine, but it wouldn't absolutely fail. What If? - Lilith - 04-26-2010 Footloose surprised me with the Tom Cruise pick. Thats actually one of my favorite non-horror movies. Ive seen it many times and i have to say, im glad Kevin Bacon got the role. I dont see Tom pulling that off, especially the high energy dancing. And dont anyone say his dancing in Risky Business was awesome because it wasnt all that! Anyone can slide on their living room floor synced to Bob Seger...ROFLMAO! And besides, there were no couches to junp up and down on and scream at Oprah! LOL Tom Cruise has some good movies and i used to like him pretty well. But he has gotten to fuckin weird lately with all his bullshit. |
