okay for some this was "just a storm"
but for those of us who survived (like me) it was more terrifying than I can go into all at once... :fright:
death..
dead bodies...
dying...
loss...
distruction...
just to name a few.
Sure I was lucky. I just lost stuff
Still...I was in tears last night as I relieved the fear of those few days.
And in an effort to heal I posted this forum to either relect on or answer questions about this event.
Please feel free to ask I'll do my best to reply honestly....

okay to start off I thought I'd share some random trivia from the event -
the spray painted "crosses" on the houses..
When I first saw them I thought it was a voodoo thing to keep them "safe"
actually (this is true) the four sections mean -
1.the intials of whatever (whoever) inspected the house
2.number of dead human bodies found within
3.number of dead animal bodies found within
4.the date
thought y'all would like to know...

I'm just glad you're OK in all honesty, and sorry you're still feeling all the pain and fear
. The one question I really have is, how does relocation and reconstruction work? It seems like a whole lot too much to rebuild after a hurricane, is there some kind of sytem to who gets their house back, does insurance cover anyone, or does everyone just have to try and buy heir stuff again?

thanks for your questions Briggs and I'll do my best to answer them...
"relocation and reconstruction" works by those who have had to move from after a major disastor return with others of equal drive or want to help either rebuild or clean up a mess so that others may...
at least is how it was explained to me.
By working together to either clean and or clear - it goes *faster* than waiting for Goverment help and sometimes more efficently. In the sense that some can't do it alone and without the buildings being clean and/or clear they couldn't do anything anway.
I know it makes little to no sense :reddisgust:
Anyway - I lived in a place that got 5 feet of water in it - already had a few feet "going" for it in the sense it was already raised. A few blocks away (less than a mile) a family member had nearly 6-8 feet of water in her first level (basement) we could see the water line on the step leading from the kitchen!
Some were lucky and could start work on rebuilding thier homes right away - with trailers "generously" provided - but I understand they were not so carefully recieved. While I lived about an hour and a half away during the efforts to clean out what was left - since we did not own the house we lived in - we just got what was salvagable and the owners had to gut the houses (remove water damage sheetrock) and replace/repaint the walls.

Yeah, I am just glad you are okay as well as everybody else. I remember I was following the storm via Weather Channel and it looked dreadful.
