Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - NicoleMayCanaday - 09-03-2010

What's your theory?

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - mrblue - 09-03-2010

Fakee.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - FreddysFingers - 09-03-2010

I say Fake. I don't believe there is a being known as God or Heaven so therefor I don't believe in Satan or Hell. Demonic possession is folklore, falsified facts, manipulated facts and whatnot. I want to see a real... legit... no bullshit exorcism for me to believe in demonic possession.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Fangenstein - 09-03-2010

I never really had any faith that there is a God. So I find it hard to believe in Demonic possession.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - FreddysFingers - 09-04-2010

Yes. Which is why I love Cotton's quote in the beginning of Last Exorcism. 'If you believe in God, then you have to believe in the Devil.' I don't believe in 'God' but I believe in a benevolent force. That force does not reside in 'Heaven' because it doesn't exist... therefor 'Hell' does not exist. Why believe in demons but not God? There always has to be a Ying and a Yang.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - zombieboy308 - 09-05-2010

I have a faith In god but do not believe in exorcisms. Its a fear that the church puts into people to get them follow there religion.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - FreddysFingers - 09-06-2010

True. But I think it's also used to show there is an opposite to good (Jesus/God) and to provide reason for the bad (Satan/Devil).

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - anothermasque - 09-06-2010

I'm a diehard skeptic. I believe nothing.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Friday The 13th - 09-07-2010

I dunno I believe in God, so I guess I therefore believe Demonic Possessions are possible.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Dr. Briggs - 09-07-2010

I have a theory that came with my posting in NHB lately. Demons can live within us, perhaps not possessing us to the extent they do in movies, but making us angry and our lives miserable. They take us at our moments of emotional vulnerability, creeping in by way of bad thoughts and making such thoughts fester and overtake us. They try and get powerful somehow, build up until we can do no more and turn psycho, or shoot out through our mouths when we can no longer tolerate them in our souls anymore, infecting others with fear and resent.

Obviously the latter option is more preferable, but such things can do untold harm to others. Anger is a sin for a reason, in fact if you think about it, there is a practical reason against each of the seven sins as well as a practical reason for a bunch of Biblical things many may have skipped over simply on principle. On that subject, it occurs to me that anger may not be sinful in and of itself, but harming innocents with it surely is. What must be done is we need to let such demons out at places they can not infect; let them out to individuals who accept our feelings even if they turn dark, individuals who will not at all be hurt, engraged or frightened by such remarks, and instead care, listen and try to make things better. I pretty much support the Esalen way of doing things: scream your head off with all your irrationally fucked-up and politically incorrect thoughts at someone who won't be negatively affected by them. No Hold Barred seems to work on the same principle Big Grin .

That was very insightful Briggs, as always. I agree that everybody has demons of a metaphysical sense and that we created the idea of demons as a way to show the evils in the world. This, however, does not manifests itself into literal possessed people.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Tara - 11-09-2010

Why do you boys say its fake?

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Lilith - 11-24-2010

Well without having to get into a long drug out debate about it.. i will simply say i do believe possession can occur and leave it at that.

I do think it gets hyped up more in movies then what a person actually goes through. Most people when they hear "possessed" or "possession" they immediately think of 360 degree head spins and green pea vomit spew.

Statistic wise, there always seems to be some type of religious background concerning the so called victim of possession. And im not talking about just the ole casual visits to the church on Sundays. Im talking about those freaky people that take religion to far. The Anneliese Michel case was an interesting one. I do think there is a fine line between SOME medical mental health issues and those involved in spiritual combat. But im not going to get into that either.

Personal beliefs such as whether or not you believe in God or Satan does much with this. As research can show where some possession cases took place in victims with no religious beliefs at all. These cases and victims also had a much harder time with deliverance as well.

Anyway, i suggest that if anyone really truly is interested in possession cases etc, that they should do some extensive research on the issue. And im not talking about going to google and typing a few words in. I mean some good digging on the subject if your really out for some answers. But when it gets right down to it, a person is going to believe what ever they want regardless of any findings. So things like this take an open mind also.

But if you need to see it in person, chances are its not going to happen...lol

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - BGTNJeff - 11-24-2010

Which is more important: that a person who believes they are possessed is no longer possessed, or that a person who believes they are possessed believes they are no longer possessed?

If perception is reality, which is more important to change: someone's perception or someone's "reality?"

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Friday The 13th - 11-25-2010

im confuzzled lol

If someone believes they are possessed (I'm thinking along the lines of Emily Rose here,) then they are. An exorcism may change their perception enough so that their reality changes. They were possessed, now they are not, because of the exorcism.

If someone does not believe they are possessed and yet is subjected to an exorcism, it will certainly do more harm than good. That person's perception of themselves will be changed irreparably.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - FreddysFingers - 11-26-2010

I could see what you are talking about but the people who believe they are possessed are usually superstitious Christians. In that case, hoax an exorcism and make them believe otherwise... if not, take them to a doctor.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - Caftan King - 12-03-2010

Okay, I have never seen the devil face to face, but I have encountered and combated his minions a number of times. They are present, even if they do not have horns or tails so meaning to say I believe in demonic possessions and exorcisms.

Exorcisms: Real or Fake? - FreddysFingers - 12-03-2010

If you believe in the devil, you have to believe in god. You can't have one or the other.
