I made a thread not long back about how much comedy it takes to make a film a horror-comedy and not just a horror film with a lot of comic relief. This, I guess you'd say, is a thread somewhat along the same lines. Basically, I am interested to know how you like horror and comedy balanced if you do indeed like horror comedy: do you like outright parodies such as Scary Movie, 1:1 mixes of comedy and horror like Return of the Living Dead, comedies that could be considered horror due to exceptionally dark elements such as Spider Baby, Dead Alive style splatstick, or something else entirely? There are nearly endless "blends" to choose from to be honest.
Personally, I go for either stuff that seems to mix horror and comedy seamlessly like ROTLD or Demon Knight, or dark comedies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 or Monster Man that thrive on emphasizing the absurd characters and happenings in horrific situations.

For me, Slither and Feast are my favorite horror/comedies.
Shaun of the Dead & Zombieland did come to mind, but those two are comedy dominant and don't give off a creepy vibe.

I'd have to say that I like the blend between horror and comedy, where it's half and half. I agree with Chainsaw that Slither is probably my favorite example because I was scared and laughing. Actually, now that I think about it… Arachnophobia is right up there too. I don't mean slapstick comedy that disguises itself as horror like Dead Alive, I mean horror movies that have comedic elements. I'm willing to say that Sleepy Hollow is a great example of horror with dark comedy.

Fido had deliciously great dark comedy. I forgot about that one. Especially when that kid accidentally kills his friend and then gets eaten by Fido.

I love Fido, it deserved to do so much better at the box office.
Did anyone else think that Dreamcatcher was supposed to be funny, with all those shit weasels and fart gags? I've been told they were all playing it straight, but I'm not sure....

you think that was bad, the book was WAY too overdetailed with that shit, especially the gas and the fluids-the movie sucked

No, Dreamcatcher was supposed to be serious because that's the way the book was written but maybe King intended to have dark comedy. It's pretty funny that the aliens create "shit weasels" because that's the common stereotype with aliens⦠that they anally probe you.

Dusk Till Dawn had a lot of comedy, especially when shit started going down. I'll never forget that line: "Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them. i don't give a fuck how crazy they are!" Quentin, who I think wrote this, is known for putting gritty/dark humor in his movies.
