What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-22-2011 ![]() What Happened In MayviIIe? (a sequel to last year's What Happened in Mayville?) is a play by Christina Joy Howard and Adam Chambers, and performed by the LOFT Ensemble of Los Angeles. It is a cleverly written and superbly executed horror play carefully couched in an interesting character drama. The show opens with the young and pretty Emily working the registration desk of the town's hotel, when in stumbles a half-drunk love-sick swain, Tyler who passionately and ridiculously tries to woo a guarded and hesitant Emily. They're interaction is so funny and awkwardly romantic that you're easily lulled into forgetting that you came to see horror. Though the comfort of this does not last long. Strange, disturbing, and down-right disgusting things begin to happen in the hotel and to it's patrons, and though Tyler's comedic relief is both well timed and well played, it's not enough to stop some of the scenes from being perfectly terrifying. Which is, of course, exactly what you payed for. This is the first horror playâlet alone ZOMBIE playâthat I have had the privilege to see, and if this is any indication of the art form, I have to say I am now a huge fan. I was extremely surprised by what they were able to pull off in live theatre with nothing more than make-up, lighting, a contortionist or two, and some extremely excellent acting. If anyone is going to be in the Los Angeles area in the next month or so, I highly recommend attending: http://loftensemble.com/ Here's a pic of me and Jessica Botello (Maggie the prostitute) taken just after curtain. ![]() :zombiekick: What Happened In MayviIIe? - FreddysFingers - 09-22-2011 The first horror play, huh? That makes sense. When I was reading it I was asking myself, "I don't think there ever was a horror themed play. Maybe mystery, thriller or suspense but not horror." Then again, apparently they brought Silence of the Lambs to Broadway. What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-22-2011 It's definitely not the first horror play. Just the first I've ever attended. And seriously such a good time. If you think horror is fun on screen, you need to see it live. Blood flying across a stage mere feet from you...? Soooo cool. LOL What Happened In MayviIIe? - Fangenstein - 09-22-2011 This sounds freaking great!! Would love to see this play. Im flying in thats all there is to it!
What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-22-2011 I like your attitude, Fang! LOL :alcohol: What Happened In MayviIIe? - Fangenstein - 09-22-2011 The Irish are not known for drinking and having a good time.... But I could make a exception with this
What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-23-2011 Oh yes. You're a sober, depressing lot. Sad, really.
What Happened In MayviIIe? - Fangenstein - 09-23-2011 Most Irish are embarrassed by the stigma of the 'Drunken Irish'.... I dont know why. We have done everything in our power to earn it:alcohol: What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-23-2011 My Irish half of the family isn't embarrassed by it in the slightest. As a matter of fact we wear it like the fucking badge of honor it is. But Irish-Americans tend to do that with everything even remotely smacking of Irishness. Have you seen the shit we do for St. Patrick's Day? LOL What Happened In MayviIIe? - Fangenstein - 09-23-2011 Looks like I gotta experience St. Patrick's Day state side!
What Happened In MayviIIe? - DragonBlues - 09-23-2011 LOL. Definitely. I mean... we had a firebreather at our party this year. It was pretty damn epic.
What Happened In MayviIIe? - Sobriquet - 10-12-2011 This was AWESOME! So glad sis took em and my friend for our first day in SoCal. Such a fun time! I was laughing so hard and the zombies were uber creepy. Epic! *high fives* |
