Ju-On - Rosemary's Baby - 02-05-2009 I'm relatively sure that everyone has seen "The Grudge". Which was based on "Ju-On". Unfortunately, as usually happens, something gets lost in the translation. The original "Ju-On" is spooky, unpredictable, and in need of some translation. I didn't get the cat thing, if you see it you'll understand. So, here's a bit of history to help you understand... Wikipedia: Bakeneko... "A bakeneko will haunt any household it is kept in, creating ghostly fireballs, menacing sleepers, walking on its hind legs, changing its shape into that of a human, and even devouring its own mistress in order to shape shift and take her place. When it is finally killed, its body may be as much as five feet in length. It also poses a danger if allowed into a room with a fresh corpse; a cat is believed to be capable of reanimating a body by jumping over it." &... "In Japanese folklore, any cat that lives over thirteen years old, reaches one kan (eight pounds) in weight or is allowed to keep a long tail can become a bake-neko ( 化け猫 ) or Ghost Cat (Addis 2001). A bake-neko is a cat that gains paranormal powers after certain circumstances." One more, just because I found it funny... "There are many stories about the supernatural abilities of the bake-neko: talking, walking on their two rear legs, shapeshifting, and even resurrecting the dead. Because of the stories about the bake-neko the Japanese people may cut their catâs tail off to stop them from becoming a bake-neko. Cats that were caught drinking lamp oil were also considered to be bake-nekos. Cats may have regularly been caught drinking lamp oil due to the fact that old fashion lamp oil was made from fish." Ha. Anyway. A very creepy movie that is good for a night on the couch with Fear.net. Ju-On - LokiZee - 02-06-2009 Heh, you should send this to Stephen King. heehe. Very informative. Clears some musings of me brain up ![]() :zombie: Ju-On - sam/SLASHER - 02-10-2009 yeh i liked it but it was hard to understand all the way through. Ju-On - LokiZee - 02-11-2009 Maybe if you weren't stoned when we watched it....hehehe:zombie: Ju-On - sam/SLASHER - 02-12-2009 go to hell
Ju-On - Riptide - 02-15-2010 I saw a clip of the director explaining the cat & the kid and why the boy sounds like the cat when he opens that hideous mouth of his, in Japanese folklure, when the boy and cat were drowned by the father, they are considered innocent souls in a tragic death, and therefore their souls merged as one. The boy & cat are usually always together in the film, their souls are one in the same. Anyway, that's what I got out of the directors explaination, it made sense to me after he talked about it.
