Pumpkinhead series - Dr. Briggs - 03-09-2009

Anyone here a fan of the Pumpkinhead series? I'm not a huge fan, but I think the monster is awesome. Pumpkinhead, along with Freddy Krueger and Chucky, is one of the few horror villains to show a sort of twisted glee whilst doing his killing (Mostly in part 1), and especially one of the few monsters to do so. The "revenge-demon" concept is a very interesting one, having the villain consciously invoked instead of accidentally stumbled on is something that could be done more often, and the way in which he concocts his revenge is brutal. The summoning witch is her own wicked entity and really keeps the series together (Though it seems she could very well have been a completely different person in part 2).

Each of the entries in the series has their own strengths and weaknesses. In the first the poor pacing counteracts the creepiness of Pumpkinhead, in part 2 the acting sucks pretty bad (Especially from Andy Robinson, who is ironically one of the most experienced in the cast), but it has a good plot which expands farther upon the mythos. 3 and 4 are surprisingly skillful for TV movies but the former has some bad direction and the latter's script could have been much better. In this way, its quite hard to pick a favorite, but for now I would have to say part 2 is mine.

Part one is my favorite, especially with Lance Henriksen being one of my favorite actors of the time. The monster is beautifully done, not something I'd like to bump into in a dark alley!!!!!Pump
