Dr. BriggsProm Night (2008)

One of the most hated remakes out there, and one of my favorites X). Persoally, I thought the original was a bit melodramatic, very cheesy, and very slow. Though the remake was pretty slow on it's own (Helped by a heaping helping of teen drama) and contained a few bad cliches, it did have a more foreboding sense of terror, definitely added to by the awesomely unnerving killer. I found it a little darker than one would expect a PG-13 horror to be.

I think I'd rank it a 6 or 6.5/10
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

I haven't really got a chance to watch this.

I haven't seen this remake either.
But I saw the original and I thought it was just OK. Nothing great. I'd give it 5 out of 10. I quite liked the ending though.

I didn't like either, honestly.

I'd say that's an overreaction. There are a lot, lot, lot, worse out there... and that applies to the original just the same Tongue

Maybe...

Not bad, but I prefer the original.

I guess I should make a note to watch both.

The remake plays up the creepy stalker-y angle so much that its uncomfortable to watch in a very real-world way.

Then the absolute LACK of blood in some of the scenes yanks you out of it. It's an unrealistic lack of blood in some of the stabbings.

But all told, the remake was enjoyable.

I haven't seen the original in so long that i don't remember it enough to compare.

Guess its time to go to the video store...

It would have been better if there was more blood, like "milder-giallo" levels... but I don't mind how downplayed it was in all honesty. There were things that "yanked me out" however, the worst being the stalker being the "slow killer" type when he was going after the "BFF". IMO if he had run during that chase scene it truly would have made the thing for me.

Yeah, that was a little silly, didn't yank me out of the story, but it was almost chuckle-worthy.

rented the original.

It was "meh"

The remake is better.

But the original is worth a watch. And it helps in playing 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon as it connects Leslie Nielsen to Jamie Lee Curtis...
