Port St. Lucie, FL, United States (AHN) -- A 39-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly shooting his stepson in the chest with a BB gun. The incident occurred on Christmas Day as the father figure was trying to teach the boy a lesson, according to reports.
Authorities charged Christopher Fred Cady, a registered sex-offender with felony cruelty toward a child without great harm.
Investigators reportedly said the boy received a pellet gun as a Christmas gift and took it outside to play with it. While outside the boy reportedly shot his autistic cousin in the buttocks.
Cady reportedly took the gun from the boy and proceeded to shoot the boy in the chest in an effort to show him that it hurt to be shot with a pellet gun. Cady's step-son suffered minor injuries, and a bruise on his chest where he was shot, according to reports.
After being charged, Cady served time in the St. Lucie County jail in lieu of posting the $500 bail for the child-abuse charge. He was also being held without bail because he failed to report a change in address or name as a sex offender.
