Dr. BriggsThe Henry franchise
#1
Hey guys, I need help. Not too long back the gritty, disturbing semi-biographical “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” (loosely based on the real serial-killer Henry Lee Lucas) was released on DVD, as was its less faithful-to-true-events sequel “Henry II: The Mask of Sanity”. I’ve ordered both films but need some help before I go on.

I cannot find a lick of information anywhere, and I mean ANYWHERE on any Henry III… which is VERY odd, as Henry IV (in which Henry slips into an even greater bout of madness, believing he is the King of England after falling from a horse) is widely available! Now, this isn’t too uncommon considering things like Phantasm II haven’t been released until recently and Ghoulies III still has NO R1 edition, but as I said, I can’t even find any "Henry III" through movie-connections on IMDb, which should list sequels even if they have different titles. (Movie connections of “Portrait of a Serial Killer” actually only lists itself and the first sequel btw)

Similarly strange; after the also widely-available Henry V (in which, I can only suppose due to continuity errors, Henry actually IS The King of England) all I find are a lot of movies entitled Henry VIII. It's kind of like there were a bunch of movies called Zombi III and Zombi 4 I'd venture a guess, but it's strange that all the movies called Henry VIII share a similar plotline; in which Henry returns to his old ways whilst still on the throne and attempts to kill 6 more women who get in a relationship with him, or something like that... Shouldn't be that surprising considering the original was based on a true story (I'd guess part 8 was too... to a lesser extent), but the fact that the series had already clearly deviated for 5 sequels (Henry Lee Lucas was decidedly not king of England, nor did he, to my knowledge, have any delusions of being one) makes me wonder why they didn't just remake the film instead of continuing on such a surely convoluted storyline, trying still to add truths to the story.

You can see how I’m confused. I won’t get my hopes up, as this is a series that didn’t get much press from the horror community to begin with (having so many PG-13 sequels after a NC-17 film doesn’t help, I guess), but if anyone can tell me how to find Henry III, VI, and VII, which version of VIII is the best, or even tell me about any backstory to the sequels following part II, I’d much appreciate it.

Are these actually all connected? Seems like two completely different franchises. I honestly didn't know there were any after the first one and I've yet to see that, so I'm not much help.

According to IMDb, the series ends with part II.

If they're different franchises, it'd have to be something like Bill Cosby's Leonard part 6, because I cannot for the life of me find any other Henry I and II besides the popular ones, and as I said I cannot find a Henry III anywhere.

Umm....for reals??????

The Henry horror franchise ended with part 2.

The other Henry films are about English leaders. And have nothing to do with the horror films. These are period pieces, whereas the horror films are just gritty, exploitation flicks.

I, uh, hope this clears things up.

LOL - someone likes to reel people in...

Give over - nobody thinks Shakespeare's Henry V is related to Portrait of a Serial Killer.

I never noticed this thread before. Laughing-satan Laughing-satan Wouldn't be great if all these movies were connected and Henry V and VIII were brutal murderers who bathed in the blood of their victims?
