Dr. BriggsFinal Destination: death or demon?
#1
I'm not a fan of the Final Destination series by any stretch... however, instead of posting a complaint thread as I was planning to, I thought a discussion/debate would be a lot more enjoyable/interesting XD

One thing that goes through my mind whilst watching these movies: why the hell do random psychic dreams keep narrowly averting disaster, only for death to pick the survivors off again in implausible ways? Surely such things don't normally happen, that is to say, naturally happen more than once or twice in hundreds of years! More often than not I imagine people who avoid death due to premonitions simply go on to live happy lives later on (or else, we'd more than likely be hearing about a lot more such coincidences in the news)...

...which leads me to theorize that what happens in the Final Destination series is NOT indeed natural, that despite everything being blamed on death itself throughout the films and promotional materials, there is a different force at work in the films, one that can be detected more easily and with much stricter rules.

So what is it? I don't have a clue myself; maybe it IS death, but I think not. Who agrees, disagrees, or feels like tossing ideas back and forth?

I believe that it is death actually. I heard that the first Final Destination was based on an unused X-Files script and since the show has tapped into the idea of people foreseeing the future, it makes sense. I don't think the series was meant to go any further than the first one so the main character may have been some type of repressed psychic. Perhaps it might be a force that we aren't familiar with but many have encounters this 'force' and they promptly named it Death.

You see all the kids that die in the movies all have said Candyman 3 times in the mirror at some point in there lives and Candyman is just now beginning to catch up with them just as an invisible force which explains why Tony Todd is in the movies :x

So you're saying (with the first sentences anyhow) instead of the force necessarily being something "unnatural," it's the forseers? That does make sense, setting them apart from just any shmo who avoids disaster. If it were just anybody the "avoiding death" could just be taken as a part of life; a coincidence, whereas if it were someone naturally inclined to avoid death and helping others to do the same, it could be taken by death itself as an inhibitory force that must be stopped.

And @mrblue: LOL XD

Yeah, I think this force is natural and that it's 'job' is to kill, which is why we call it Death. The people, however, are the ones that can foresee it coming and they are inclined to avoid it. I think the movie dives into the idea of what is our destiny. Either way, we may avoid something but if we are destined for it... it will catch up.
