The fact that he posted off-topic + the fact that he did not mention anything on topic (instead mentioning "fascinating subjects" which sounds like a uniform intro for entering any number of forums about anything) + the fact that he mentions his company name and notes that he's joined three other forums (still without mentioning anything on-topic) + the fact that I left him my e-mail address in the ban message so he could send me a message if he was unjustly banned, makes me think I was in the right

What's considered off-topic in an introduction? The security stuff? Oldman pointing out the website link on his profile probably solidified this guy's place in spam history, but it didn't really seem far off from a standard introduction to me. I guess that's why I'm not a moderator, eh? I hope I didn't come off as being difficult or anything. I was just honestly curious.

My reasoning is in how he conveyed the details; it wasn't the fact he mentioned the security company in and of itself, but that it was the most specific thing he mentioned in the post.

Basically, I asked myself "why bring that up instead of reasons why you joined this specific forum? It's not exactly well-known." I could understand not specifying how he found this horror board and why he joined it out of all the others out there, if he brought up the genre right off the bat, but he didn't. And saying he joined "three other forums" without specifying what they were (and where he found any of the forums for that matter) just makes his introduction sound all the more like a salesman trying to look generic and non-confrontational. In this case, the guy crossed from sounding non-confrontational to "detached."
