SAM! You're back! o_O

And yes, I agree 1408 is one of the best horror films this decade. Very nice to have a good atmospheric "things get warped in a haunted place" flick among so much unspirited mess trying to push the envelope Tongue . I found it somewhat similar to The Haunting myself.

(But wait, what the hell, Darkside? Pet Sematary is not only one of the most skilled book-to-film conversions I know of, but also one of the scariest films! Did you just mean out of the ones you mentioned? You did praise Cujo later on...)

Hey Briggs, yea man! Pet Sem is sick and twisted. People walked out of the theater when I saw that one. There are so many great moments in it, but the sister was horrifying. I included it with the list of great ones, didn't I? I did leave out shawshank though in my list of non horror successes. I felt bad about that one.

I didn't find 1408 to be scary at all. It was a good movie. I haven't seen Pet Sem since I was about 16. That was a great one. I dunno I kinda drifted away from Stephen King's works. I read all his books back when i was 14-16, then last year I figured I'd pick up some of the later volumes from the dark tower serie and hated it. I read another one, can't remember what it was, but I didn't like it much either. His earlier works, like salem's lot, the shining, pet semetary etc were in my opinion much better.

Hey Demented, I am with you for the most part. You didnt think it was effectively scary at all?

When I think back on the last movie that somewhat gave me the creeps, I'd have to say it was del torro's The Orphanage, I have a thing for creepy kids. 1408's concept was good, maybe it's because I'd read it before, but neither me nor my husband found it scary at all, in fact if my memory's good, he didn't really care for it. I guess it just didn't "get to me". I thought it was more effectively entertaining than scary, then again maybe I'm a bit desensitized. I think it really depends on what kind of movies you're used to watching.

I'll also agree that it did remind me of the haunting, but at the same time, it was a little like 13 ghosts as well.

Oh yeah, I didn't notice it in the first part, thought you might have just been going through the standard "King wrote this..." section Tongue .

As I said, it's gotta be Pet Sematary. Manages to both be faithful to the book (My favorite King book so far) and very frightening on it's own. I'd say Cujo comes in second.

I really like Misery and Carrie as well, but I'm a bit more indecisive about them because they left some very interesting parts of their novels absent. In their defense, a lot of that stuff would likely not have translated well to the films, and in the same vein both movies also had new elements that were done just as well as or even better than the book.

Mine would probably be the Shining. It's my husband's favorite so I might be a little biased. I remember reading the Langoliers when I was in high school, it generally doesn't make people's lists of best king adaptations, but I thought it was pretty good. I don't think I can get into king without mentioning Children of the Corn.

I didn't really find 1408 scary, but I did find it to be pretty awesome!
I love Stephen King, all of his Ideas are SO original compared to others.
