The next part of my sequel-series: It seems that once things get past part 4 in horror, it becomes clear that whether big or small, a series is a "franchise". With that being said, people can get tired by that point.
A "curse" of 5s (Not my term) can descend by that point, and when the fifth film comes around, fans can get pretty bored and filmmakers can get pretty complacent in their success.
Since this thread is my Curse of 5s, I will skip the important stuff and go right to the list
.
Friday the 13th part 5 - Here is a sequel where the writers tried to do something innovative; introducing a new killer, but in doing so alienated their hardcore fanbase. Not that bad otherwise I've heard.
A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child - Another one that was good but to fans relied too much on established tropes (Freddy being a jokester for the most part).
Halloween 5 - Thought to be a bland installment, even though the last was fairly similar in tone. Also infamous for starting the Thorn plotline.
Seed of Chucky - Definitely the oddest Child's Play film, included real celebrities and copious humor. Many horror fans did not appreciate it
Saw V - Bladly directed and written according to many fans, in addition to killing off many successful potential plotlines. I tend to agree moreso than I do with others "bad-5" opinions
Puppet Master 5 - Though it was nearly identical to part 4, it somehow gets a slightly worse rep (Even though there were more puppets, more action, more death, etc...). Curse of 5s strikes again!
And so, as more and more franchises die off, the chain of sequels continues! Does anyone else have any intresting additions to the phenomena??

âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ
