Okay, think for a moment. Who won in your opinion? Let's analyze this one.
Regan:
Her life was complete Hell. Pazuzu completely fucked up her life and everyone around her. Family, friends, her mom's employee's, her moms friends, everyone.
Chris MacNeil (Regan's Mom):
Her daughter is possessed and everyone around her is being fucked in the ass by the possession, including herself.
Regan and Her Mom:
You know they are never going to completely recover from this event. It has affected their lives in such a way that they will never be able to forget. They are scarred forever.
Father Merrin:
Even though he's a complete and total bad ass, he dies. Sure, he's had experience before, but it damn-near killed him the first time. Now look at him, he's older and probably still feeling the effects from the first one. I mean, the dude was popping pills in the bathroom. Sadly, dealing with it this time was out of the question. However, he did the best he could and definitely opened up Father Karras' eyes. I can't help but think of this line:
Father Karras: I think it might be helpful if I gave you some background on the different personalities Regan has manifested. So far, I'd say there seem to be three. She's convinced...
Father Merrin: There is only one.
Plus, I love the fact that they knew they would meet again. Merrin was just waiting for the word. He knew the demon was coming and he would have to face him again. The demon also knew this. Remember when Merrin got out of the Taxi and walked into the house? Remember the Demon's face? He knew that Merrin had arrived. I LOVE that.
Father Karras:
He got fucked; hard. Remember all the mental torment he went through?
Pazuzu: You killed your mother! You left her alone to die! Bastard!
Pazuzu: Why you do this to me, Dimmy?
The Demon used Karras' own dead mother against him. Then, at the end, the only way Karras could get rid of the Demon was to invite the Demon into him and then jump out of a window, killing himself and taking the Demon with him. Sure, he saved Regan, but it was at the cost of his own life. Also, I think that's maybe what Pazuzu wanted the whole time. He may be gone (for now) and Regan survived, etc... However, look at the damage that was caused.
So, who do you think won? Good or Evil?
