I won't say I loved it, but IMO Platinum Dunes did better with this one than they do ith their remakes. I think Unborn had some very creepy moments realized with solid cinematography (every time I heard "Jumby wants to be born now"... >.> shiiit...), though some scenes could have focused more on horror than action and been more effective. I'd give it a 6/10 right now though I've only watched it once as of yet

Maybe it was because I'd recently seen "Orphan" and was just creepy-kidded out but I really didn't care for it. Granted, I really liked the angle that Goyer took with the story, but it seems like he used all his energy coming up with the concept and decided to skimp on things like dialogue and logic. The creepiest part, to me, was the old man doing the crab walk, but hell, that was on the menu screen. It seemed to borrow a lot from j-horror too, both in how it was shot and with the pale-faced creepy kid. Not that it's a bad thing, but I thought it just made it feel really derivative.
My two cents...

I was not a big fan of this movie at all. To me it was like a half ass excuse for a Jewish Exorcist movie and on top of that... Jambi? Really?? Isn't that the name of the floating head in Pee-Wee's Playhouse? Although I did like the bathroom scene but other than that, there was nothing going for it at all. It just seemed really cliche. The kid got on my nerves and the upside down dog head thing was idiotic.

Another movie I was semi-interested in but stayed away from after hearing the majority say it wasn't very good. Honestly the only reason I wanted to see it was because Gary Oldman was in it and from what I understand even he couldn't save it from being not so good.

Not even Gary Oldman could save this film. As a viewer you are totally detached. I had no interest if anyone lived or died. Just poorly executed.

It has a 4.5/10 on IMDb. If it's that low there, I can only imagine how the critics rated it over on Rotten Tomatoes.

I gotta highly disagree on the authority of RottenTomatoes: 1) they've got two "ratings" equating to "wonderful" or "awful," which I do not think accurately catches the "true rating" of every film (what of movies that are well-made but entirely forgettable? What of 'turn off your brain' type movies?) 2) I believe the basis of whether a review calls a film "wonderful" or "awful" is dependent not on the reviewers themselves, but on the RT staff 3) the selection of reviews they use is quite random, at least where older and more obscure films are concerned
IMDb I think is better, but still not entirely accurate, especially not where genre cinema is concerned. Look at the top 100 horror films on IMDb; Nosferatu? King Kong? Shaun of the Dead? Those are good films, but hardly the best horror films in terms of being "horrific"

RT is definitely more mainstream critic based while IMDb is based on the casual viewer. RT is just the most professional place I've found for reviews, I guess. My taste falls somewhere in between the two. I've loved quite a few films that are rated poorly on RT and hated many of the highly rated ones on IMDb. Is there something else out there better or more fit to a horror fan's tastes out there for reviews/ratings on movies?

Not that I know of. I mainly just use IMDb, but remember to keep an open mind when searching for good horror there: remember that ratings of 5.0 or greater are usually somewhat creepy with most negative votes coming from people with absurd standards for acting, no imagination or hatred for "cash cows," and scan for some keywords within the reviews ("boring" often means "they relied on atmosphere which made my inner gorehound flustered!" whereas "pretentious" usually means "they TRIED, which is not something horror should do!") :p

Heh. I've always cut horror a bit more slack than most reviewers. Mostly because I'm a die hard fan at heart and crave really great horror films. They're just so hard to come by anymore.
