Surprised to not see this on the boards yet. Wink

This movie was actually really good and compared to the original 50's classic, it's really a good update. It follows the same storyline about a meteor that crashes to Earth carrying a blobby substance in it. It is then let loose on the town and it's up to a pair of mismatched teens to stop it. However, there is one added twist about the blob in this case... but I won't spoil it.

It has lots of blood, great effects and a great cast. Highly recommended.

I recommend it, even though the 80s version is a lot better IMO

I liked this one a good bit. The blob is truly one of the creepiest horror monsters to imagine having to go up against, not only is it near unstoppable (even with a good bit of CO2), but the way it kills is horrific. Add that to it's origins, potency and eventual fate in the remake, and you have a near constant sense of doom that you can ponder over even after you've finished the film.

There are still some big flaws about "Blob" though. I found there were some pacing/timing problems, plus some characters that felt like they could have been more fleshed out (specifically the preacher, who seemed to go from a fairly cool guy to a doomsayer in less than a scene). That considered, I'd still say this is one of the better remakes out there, one that's made all the more effective in it's modernization whilst still being respectful to its roots.
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

Although I haven't seen it in years, I remember enjoying it. I remember watching it with my father who would point out how the original was superior in each scene.

Wow, Deja vu.

Briggs, I could not agree with you more! I think Blob is a very underrated horror villain an it is unstoppable... you can't kill it. It kills you by suffocation and then uses acid to devour you alive!! That's horrendous. Although, despite the fact that the Preacher could have been a little more characterized... it's one of the best remakes out there.

Daylight, see the original and mind the cheese.
