Get ready for Deep Red in 3D -- not by Dario Argento but from zombie icon George A. Romero. Word has it that Romero is in advanced negotiations to helm a completely unnecessary stereoscopic remake in English of Argento's cult classic. The 1975 masterpiece Deep Red, about a string of supernatural splatter murders, is considered Argento's gem giallo and the film that established his international standing. Claudio Argento, who is Dario's brother and regular producer, has penned the screenplay for Romero's redo. Plan is to start shooting this fall in Canada. Though Dario Argento and George Romero go back a long way -- he collaborated with Romero on zombie classic Dawn of the Dead, on which he has producer credit, and they also co-directed Two Evil Eyes in 1990 -- Dario Argento will not be involved in Romero's remake in any guise--- bloody-disgusting.com

Shock til You Drop adds that Romero didn't mention this remake in a recent interview they did with him, so, with any luck, this report is false.

This shit just makes me want to beat my desk into submission with my forehead. :reddisgust:

Geez hopefully. I'm tired of 3D and remakes.

Deep Red; flawed, but hardly worthy of a remake... in 3D... by Romero...
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

Thank the gods! Fangoria just posted an interview with Romero. He said there was no deal on it yet and he emphatically wouldn't touch it unless he had Dario's blessing.

Yay! For now...

If this does happen, let's hope it's NOT in 3D. One horror and fantasy director we talked to actually says he felt that 3D hurts the horror genre the most because of the way the director has to use so much more lighting for every scene. That takes away from the ability to create the darker feel that is needed in many horror film scenes.

Anyway, we also ran this Deep Red story over at MoreHorror.com. You can check it out here if you'd like http://www.morehorror.com/Romero-to-Rema...p-Red81520
