Hatchet 3 officially greenlit

Variety--- With Adam Green's controversial horror pic "Hatchet 2" posting strong sales on DVD, Dark Sky Films has greenlit production on "Hatchet 3."Genre film will be produced by Green's ArieScope Pictures and Dark Sky, which is a subsidiary of indie producer-distrib MPI Media Group. ArieScope's Cory Neal will serve as a producer along with Green and Sarah Elbert.Third installment will continue the horrific saga of Victory Crowley, known as the "Bayou Butcher," and pick up where "Hatchet 2" left off, with a young woman (Danielle Harris) getting revenge on the malevolent monster who killed her friends while they vacationed in Louisiana swamp country.Cast and other details of the production, including its director, are expected shortly."For a little indie movie that I dreamt up when I was just eight years old, it has been absolutely surreal to watch it turn into a modern-day slasher franchise," said Green, who had already worked out a possible storyline for "Hatchet 3" before he started shooting "Hatchet 2," the first unrated indie horror film to be exhibited by a major chain in 25 years when it opened last fall in AMC Theatres across the country. While Green expressed trepidation about the possibility of handing the franchise to another filmmaker, he expects to be "more involved" than the typical producer, and promises "we'll never run out of creative ways for Victor Crowley to kill people.""It has been our intention from the beginning to continue building the 'Hatchet' franchise," said Greg Newman, EVP of Dark Sky. "Adam Green has created a horror icon in Victor Crowley, and we're pleased that Crowley will live on in future installments of the franchise."

Gag me with a sp-- no, I'm not even going to make an 80s reference there. This movie doesn't deserve it. The first Hatchet was okay but it's nothing special. But like any slasher movie that has a cult following, they are destined to make more.

Who is renting/buying Hatchet 2? If this is where people's money is going we'll get more of the same. I'm certainly glad I didn't pay to see it though...

Well, that being said, I'm fine with the two movies that are available. You CAN have too much of a good thing.

Its actually strange I didn't take to the Hatchet films more. I really liked Frozen a lot more than I expected to. Its like they were made by a different director entirely to me.

I know a lot of people in the horror community (specifically the Dread Central folk) love the first Hatchet films. Personally, I'm not that big of a fan. The first one was okay only because the humor was so well written, otherwise it was very forgettable. Though, I will give it merit for being an original slasher in an age where we are plagued with remakes.

Its been a while since i watched the first Hatchet...but i remember that i liked it. I also got to see the 2nd one when it came out on DVD...i thought the 1st was better...but the 2nd one didnt bore me or anything, it was watchable. I will probably watch the 3rd when it comes out just because if i start a franchise, i like to keep up and compare etc.

Im more of an old school horror fan, so its not everyday i come across a newer / modern horror movie that peeks my interest. Let alone the remakes of some of these horror movies. There are very few of the remakes i can say were actually pretty decent.
