As you may be aware, our world is supposed to come crashing to an end on December 21st, 2012. Whether it's a zombie apocalypse, the Christian god's rapture or the galactic alignment is of no significance. What is important is that we have fun & live life to the fullest in the meantime! So I'll post a quick, thorough review of a different horror movie every day, for the next 246 days.
This is a great way to keep track of how many days we have left, and find a good movie to watch in the meantime. So Enjoy! and feel free to add!

Since we're counting down to the End Of Days, I thought it was only right to start with a horror title that fit the bill. A lot of people seemed to over look this gem, which is written and directed by three people; David Bruckner, Jacob Gentry and Dan Bush.
The film starts off with a horrible, D rate horror movie scene. Don't turn it off! It's just the intro. The movie is interrupted by a psychedelic signal, which ends up altering humanities brain function and behavioural patterns. It seems to drive everyone mad, into paranoid killing machines.
Seems like your everyday, run-of-the-mill "everyone kills each other- the end" horror movie, but it's the division of three parts that truly give this movie it's edge. Because the film is divided into three very different perspectives we get to experience horror, intelligence and even humour whereas in other films, one or two elements would be left out. A music driven love story, a decapitated talking head and a horribly humerus character named Lewis are some of the main treats in this title.
Horrific, Hilarious and Humble, this movie may make you think twice about what's coming out of your T.V, Radio and Phone!

âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ
" In death there are no accidents, no coincidences, no mishaps, and no escapes."
I was seven when this movie was released on DVD, after watching it once I bought it with two weeks worth of allowance. It holds a special place in my heart, as the first horror movie I've ever owned. Needless to say, I've seen it over two dozen times and it never seems to get old. In many ways it follows the simple 80's teen horror model: six kids that are hunter down and killed off by something. There's the main girl and boy, the jock, the skank, the best friend, the goof and the teacher, with a special appearance by Tony Todd as the creepy mortician. The film starts off with our group of teens boarding a plane to Paris with the rest of their French class, when the main character has a vision. His vision forces the six characters off the plane just before it explodes. The rest of the movie is comprised of creative death scenes, witty dialogue and thought provoking events as death ( force, not physical) comes to claim the lives that were wrongfully allowed to live.
The reason this movie has impacted me so strongly, would be the underlying tone that humans are fragile. Before this film, I hadn't given any thought about how easy it is to kill a person. The 'killer' isn't a masked maniac, or a vengeful ex, that needs a machete, knife or any weapon for that matter. The killing is performed by an invisible force that causes people to die by tragic accident. Most of the death scenes are believable, mundane and could happen to anyone at any time. It's truly frightening, just how fragile we are.
If you skipped this one thinking it looked too mainstream, think again!

First off, I would recommend this to any fan of foreign, gory and fantastic horror flicks. Secondly, It's an ending worth waiting for if subtitles aren't your thing.
This is a French flick that I saw a few weeks ago at a friends house, and decided to rent it myself and watch it today. I didn't catch a few important details through the first watch, and I am glad I watched it a second time. It was directed by Alexandre Aja (Hills have eyes, Piranha3D) who is known for his writing and directing in the genre. I enjoyed the film's gore, story line, and leading ladies.
It starts off simple enough, Alexia and Marie are visiting Alexia's parents home when a strange killer appears that change their lives forever. The whole concept seems spent, but it turned out to be really good. . This movie actually made me kind of squeamish, which doesn't happen often. There are a few scenes that made me curl my toes, look away and even drop my jaw. I will admit there is a tad bit more brutality than I normally like, but it works for this movie. It definitely has a different style to it, and I look forward to seeing what else this director/writer Alexandre will come up with.
Excellent acting, gore galore and thought provoking ending, I would definitely suggest this to any horror fan.

I promise to try my best not to rant, because I love this movie! I've shown it to my friends and family (who think I'm twisted), and i'll admit it's not everyone's cup of tea.
May, is directed by Lucky McKee and stars Angela Bettis. They've worked together in almost every project the two have been involved in, and their talents bloom in this flick. The film opens with a short intro to her childhood which was lonely due to her lazy eye and her best friend Suzie, a doll enclosed in a glass box. It fast forwards, and she's a young adult working in a Vet's office. She's still very awkward and is confronted by all kinds of new friends, who don't live up to her expectations. We have two hotties in the supporting roles; Anna Faris as the not-so-subtle lesbian, and Jeremy Sisto as May's centre of affection. I don't want to ruin the plot, so I'll move on. I found the subtle humour, and tangible awkward moments made this movie so unforgettable. The characters themselves were unique, relatively well rounded and fun to get to know, but the gore doesn't get good until the end.
This movie will make you cringe, crack up and cry, but it'll never bore you.

The movie starts with eight rich kids getting on a ferry to their heiress friend Muffy's house on April 1st for the weekend. (We have; the slutty blonde, jock, innocent blond, film boy, political boy, drug boy, smart boy and smart girl.) An april fool's prank goes wrong, leaving a ferryman hideously disfigured. They brush it off and set out to have a fun weekend, but when they get settled into the house they realise it's renovated to prank; collapsing chairs, dribble glasses, taps that spray you in the face, whoopee cushions, exploding cigars etc. There are also weird 'clues' strewn about the house, newspaper clippings, pictures with moving eyes and things like that. They start being picked off one-by-one, but who will figure out the mystery? Who would want all these brats dead?
Medium gore, a few good scares and the whole movie kind of plays out like a game of clue. My copy of this film has loud music, quiet voices syndrome, but I still really enjoyed it.
The ending is what makes this a classic, I know I'll be watching this one every April 1st.
Excellent concept, awesome ending!

This is an Australian film, written and directed by Sean Byrne. He directed that self help movie "The Secret" a few years back, and this seems to be his first attempt at a full length film. It starts out with a car crash, caused by a bloody man standing in the road. Fast forwards to six months later, where Brent and his friend are discussing prom dates at school. A girl named Lola asks his to the dance, but he politely rejects her, stating that he already has a date. We find out that his dad died in the crash, and he's pretty messed up about it. He goes for a walk with his dog, and is beat up and kidnapped. The rest of the movie is based around him tied to a chair at Lola's, at her personal prom.
I really enjoyed this movie, the characters are extremely well rounded and the suspense is fantastic. The story is good, and the acting's great.
Good amount of gore, a bit of T&A and a great soundtrack! Loved it!
This is a Canadian film, written and directed by Jon Knautz, who didn't do the bet job. It's a story about a few american reporters, who go looking for a story in a small town in Poland. They think there's a religious group using human sacrifice, so they look into it deeper. They come across a strange patch of thick fog, that never moves. In the centre of this fog is a shrine, that seems to make anyone who looks at it see monsters. I didn't really like this one, so I don't have much to say. It was boring, bad acting and recycled plot. A disgrace to Canadian horror in my opinion.

'From Hell' is a Victorian era Gothic fiction about Jack the ripper. It stars Johnny Depp as the detective looking for the ripper, and Heather Graham as the leading lady. A group of prostitutes (unfortunates) are being harassed by their pimp for unheard of amounts of money when their introduced, but before they are able to come up with it, they start dying one-by-one in a mysterious fashion. After being killed their reproductive organs were removed, and bodies left brutally maimed. This leads the inspector (Depp) to believe that an educated man committed the murders, and he falls for one of the prostitutes. things escalate from there, and the endings decent. Good amount of gore, suspense, and excellent acting. Great period piece, great story. Basically I loved it, and I only have good stuff to say (:
" Isaac started the whole thing. He's a boy preacher who came to this town three years ago. At nine-years-old back then, he had a charming way that appealed to all the kids and teens like us to follow him with his own teachings of the bible and of the Old Testiment. But me and Sarah thought he was just plain weird. "

Nothing like a bit of good old religious perversion to scare the crap outta you! Add in a ton of creepy kids and some rusty farm equipment and you have a classic. I read the original short story by Stephen King in his compilation book " Night Shift" and i'll admit, the story was much more terrifying and the ending was way better. But still, the movie packs a punch. It starts out with a young boy narrating as he and his father stop at a diner after church when the kids in the town turn on the townspeople, killing all adults. Then it fast forwards to a young couple on vacation, who get lost and end up in Gatlin, the small town from the opening scene. They also hit a dying child with their car, hence the need to stop in the spooky little town. The rest of the movie is an alice in wonderland scenario, where we take the blue pill and run down the rabbit hole of corrupt religion and how dangerous weak minds can be. If you haven't seen it yet, you should! Watch it with your parents for an extra level of suspense. And grin often, they'll be having nightmares for weeks!!
"No, what you've done is taken God's oldest killing machine and given it will and desire. What you've done is knocked us all the way to the bottom of the goddamn food chain. It's not a great leap forward in my book."
The 90's were my childhood, and this film happened to be my first movie theater experience. I was only six, and my little sister was four. After two weeks of me begging to go, and my lil sis pleading too my mother finally buckled and brought us to see it. It scared my sister so much, she literally pooped her pants. I didn't want to leave, so she called up our babysitter, and she showed up 20 minutes later to stay with me while I finished the film. It's a shark movie, based around a group of researchers in an underwater facility. Samuel L. Jackson & LL cool J are in it, and it actually adds a lot to the film. The premise is that the researchers are attempting to harvest a protien complex in the shark's brain that is believed to cure Alzheimers Disease. When they are suddenly forced to prove the complex works, months ahead of schedual, an accident occurs that starts off a deadly chain reaction that puts humans at the bottom of the food chain. I love it, but I think my opinion is a bit biased on this one

8/10 - First Watch
This film was written and directed by Kevin Smith, who isn't too experienced with the genre, but did a fantastic job nonetheless. The movie starts off with introducing one of the three lead boys who is being held up in traffic by a group of religious crazies waving signs at a kids funeral that say "God Hates Fags", protesting the fact that he was being buried in a Christian cemetery. He gets to school and we meet the other two boys, and get more details on the fanatics by the teacher. The three decide to use the internet to find a lady to sleep with them and SUPRISE! She's not like her picture at all, Go figure. What I really enjoyed about this film was it's raw feeling. Honestly, it feels so real when your watching it, from every perspective (P.O.V. varies a lot). A team of police and S.W.A.T. are involved at one point, and the way they act, speak, and work was scary realistic. It's thought provoking, gory and frightening if you live in the southern regions of America. This film is not for the faint of heart, but a treat for a good horror story lover.
"Listen to me, we'll go home now and never ever tell anyone. No one but us will ever know."
9/10 - Re watch
Ahh, a good old classic on Sunday. Okay, so it starts off with a bunch of little kids playing in an abandoned school. They're playing a creepy as hell game called murderer. I think it's a form of group tag, except they yell KILL KILL KILL!@! So, a young blonde in braids joins up with them wanting to talk to one of the young boys, her sister runs off and she ends up falling out of a window by 'accident'. They make an oath to never say anything, and a local man gets pinned for it. Before he has a chance to clear his name, the cops 'accidentally' cause him to crash his car, hideously disfiguring him. The movie fast forwards to the kid's prom night, they're all graduating and a masked killer hunts them down one-by-one. Now, there's still a lot to the plot, and the movie but I don't want to completely ruin all the little surprises, but this will help me destroy the remake, because it sucked. Anyhow, Jamie Lee Curtis is the leading Lady who did a wonderful job, slick dance moves too Great ending, decent death scenes.
"Three years ago... a high school teacher got obsessed with a female student... He went psycho!... He's been in a maximum security prison until three days ago."
3/10 - First (and Only) Watch
And that's the whole plot ^^. Honestly, I really hated this. Brittany Snow was pathetic and ditzy. So were all the victims. Honestly, it was just pure 'fluff' for dialogue, and the plot had no heart beat. No back story, or sub plots or anything. I watched it all the way through waiting for something to happen....then the credits rolled
"Whether by knife or whether by gun, losing your life can sometimes be fun."
10/10 - First watch
There's so much to say! This film stands out in so many ways, and it's just so bloody entertaining! So the premise of the film is that a family of three is terrorized by two young men while on vacation at their lake house. But it's all the little details that made me fall in love. First off, the movie features virtually no score. Two songs are used, periodically throughout the film. No background music, no sound FX just the music played by the characters on their radio. It heightened the suspension of disbelief, until the main terrorizer breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to the audience half way through. He does this a few times, and even rewinds the film at one point. The two terrorizers are white clad young men with golfing gloves on, who are very clockwork orange reminiscent with changing names and stories every ten minutes. The best part about the whole movie is the undertones of 'polite society', and how the whole mess was over a few eggs. An ending worth remembering, a few good scares and good gore. I think there's a bit of everything in this, Definitely suggest it!

"There is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the lamb(8) "
Since it's may day I thought I'd celebrate with a bit of British cinema gold. This is the sequel to the 1973 film "The Wicker Man". **Not to be confused with the american remake of the wicker tree with the same title** It's written and directed by Robin Hardy, who was the director of Wicker Man. Personally, I really enjoyed it. It added to the original, instead of trying to out-do it. An all american Christian couple head out to the island of Scotland to quote "Bring some hearts to Jesus!", but the village people already have their beliefs. The couple are two country kids with a guitar, singing gospel songs and dismissing the islanders religion as fairy tales. These kids know nothing about paganism, or any type of primitive religions because all they know is their own. So they go on, "saving lives" when things start to get complicated. The two agree to be a part of their May Day festival as the May Queen and her Laddy. Little do they know the significance of their contribution. Just a wonderful film all around! What I liked most about it was that A) Christopher Lee was in it B) Real breasts! C) It was really well done. The acting, directing, script and concept couldn't have been better.
