I watched it in theaters today, and whilst I don't think it quite deserves all the hype it gets, I truly thought it was above-average and had some remarkably good and effectively scary cinematography (especially scenes taking place in "the further").
Though music-video-esque I thought James Wan's dynamic style of direction was appropriate for Saw and perhaps even Dead Silence... but he's a LOT more restrained in Insidious, and I personally think his more stable style is what must have indeed made the film above-average (the music was solid, though that's better than can be said for most modern horror soundtracks, the acting was nothing special and the script was a little "plain" in comparison to Whannel's previous work) for me.
I'd type more, but I have a headache currently. All I'll say is that this one is definitely worth a watch if nothing else; though it resorts to some cliches and uninspired "haunting" tropes, it is an original enough film among many bland ones and remakes to be a must-see in my book.
âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ

Yeah, I gotta be honest... I really liked this. It was the most fun I had in a horror movie in years and I was covering my eyes at times. I think it might have been the sound design that did it for me and I really hope that Wan is remembered for this and not Saw. This is masterpiece thus far.
Also, I keep having nightmares of that demon, specifically when he is hiding in the shadow and pointing at that kid. It's fucked up!

Doesn't it suck? I felt the same way in the blasted wait for Splice and (ESPECIALLY) The Collector to come out on DVD

I saw The Collector in theaters and still have no idea why it took so long for it to come out on DVD. I felt like I was the only person that noticed it took forever to see DVD.

The Collector is a Badass movie
Now, remember: you don't aim a gun at a man unless you intend to shoot him. And, you don't shoot a man unless you intend to kill him. No warning shots. Hey, you listening to me? No warning shots. Warning shots are bullshit. You shoot to kill, or you don't shoot at all.

I thought Insidious was a well-made, decent flick. The demon definitely made me jump, even if I won't be losing any sleep over it. Plus I love Lin Shaye anyway. Certainly was worth the watch.

After hearing that Bo wants to masturbate to this movie, I'm a little afraid to see it. exdev:

Oh don't worry Dragon. Bo likes to masturbate to every movie that he sees. If a girl so much as bends over he'll pause the movie and whip his⦠well, you know. Either way you should watch it. I actually jumped and screamed a few times.

Thanks for the reassurance, Freddy. LOL
And I REALLY don't want to know what a twat waffle is. I am blissful in my ignorance.
