I caught PA at the theaters while the buzz was building but before the full release. It was a mostly young, responsive crowd that oooh'd and gasped and murmurred all through the movie. Even without that, you could pretty much guess where all the standard genre hits were going to come. And in spite of that, there were still a few times when it caught me with something that sent a trickle of a chill up my back.
The tough part about being a movie like PA (or Blair Witch before it) is living up to all the ridiculous hype and hyperbole that people heap on it. though I imagine if the genre wasn't so anemic right now, PA might not be such a big deal: when you're starving, even Spam might taste like steak.
It's certainly not the "scariest movie EVAH," but it's not a bad little film.
