Don't Answer The Phone

One night, after putting the kids to bed, a babysitter was watching television, and the phone rang.
A little bit wary because of how late it was, she cautiously walked over to the phone, picked it up and said, "hello?" She heard the distinct sound of slow breathing on the other end. Scared, she slammed down the phone.
Only two minutes later, the phone rang again. She nervously crept over to the phone, put it to her ear, and said, "hello?" Suddenly, hysterical laughter burst out of the phone, almost making the babysitter drop the headset. She slammed the phone down as quickly as she could, and then called the operator. The operator told her that they could trace the call if she could keep him on the line as long as possible.
The babysitter went back to the television. Unable to sit, she paced back and forth glancing nervously at the telephone. When it finally rang, she ran over, picked it up and yelled, "What do you want?" A low, terrifying voice on the other end simply started laughing again. As she began to ask a question in order to keep him on the phone, he hung up.
Barely seconds later, the phone rang and she picked it up. The operator shouted, "Ma'am, you have to get out of the house right this minute. We traced the call, and it's coming from the other extension in your house!" The babysitter dropped the phone, and as she raced for the front door, she heard the pounding footsteps of someone racing down the stairs. She ran out of the house and collided into a police officer. As the officer and his partner ran into the house, they found a large man holding a butcher's knife. The police eventually determined that the murderer had entered the house through an upstairs window, murdered both children and was planning to murder the babysitter next.
