Don't get me wrong, remakes can be done good... but when you remake a movie that has such a strong fan-base, you need a director that knows what made the original one work. If he does, than the remake will be better or on par with the original movie (ex: My Bloody Valentine, Amityville Horror, ect).
But when a director takes such an iconic horror film and turns it into dog shit, you are essentially spitting in the faces of devoted horror fans. If you take the time with the movie and you develop your script, you can make a good remake.
