Mr. Briggs Inc. Wrote:Amazing that it's finally happening again - this is the kind of thing critics change the genre to "thupernatuwal thwilluh" for so they don't "get embarrassed" by praising a horror film XD.
With no disrespect to Lovecraft though, what I'd really hope for is an Oscar nominated director helming an ORIGINAL horror screenplay with a big budget sometime in the future
@Freddy'sFingers - I believe DarkSideofFilm liked Bug. I own it and haven't watched it yet so there's still a chance I'd like it
Any critic worth their salt would know better than to try to call Lovecraft's work a "psychological thriller." It would be a pure act of ignorance or dishonesty. In either case, any critic caught doing that should be stomped in the nuts with golf cleats.
An original story would be nice, but maybe this is just what we need to break the seal to getting better quality original stuff done. Of course, you have to remember, some of the greatest horror movies ever were based on literature: "The Exorcist", "Psycho", "Rosemary's Baby" - just to name a few.
Dammit, now I'm going to have to add "Bug" to the list of movies I have to watch.
