I didn't mind the religious commentary. I thought it was a different spin on the normal catholic family freak out like Red mentioned. Rev Cottons story added humor and a question of faith to the film. But I felt the story fell flat with that as well...we didn't get to see Rev Cotton struggle with his faith, which is what I was kinda hoping for.
