Dude. Freddy.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday—the day after Fat Tuesday (or Mardi Gras for you heathens
), the last feast before the fast—and ends on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter) unless you're Eastern Orthodox, in which case, Lent ends on Palm Sunday—the Sunday directly before Easter. Palm Sunday being the day Jesus entered Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, palms laid at his feet by the people of the city—the traditional welcome for a king.
And the ban on meat (and other animal products) has been significantly relaxed since the Middle Ages, and is now traditionally only observed on Fridays during the season unless you're a truly orthodox practitioner.
*laughs*
And that concludes our Catechism class for the day. Have a great week everybody and I'll see you again next Sunday.
*grins*
