I heard the "gorehound" phenomenon in film referred to as "torture porn" during one of the panels at World Horror Con, and not only did I think it terribly accurate, but I also love the way it sounds. And I have to say, I'm totally over it. A lot of these movies are gross—okay, really gross—but not necessarily scary. Which is also the case with most of these remakes. They make the movies more gory, but ultimately end up completely destroying the nuances that made the original truly frightening.
