I can't answer the question, because I haven't seen either of Zombie's Halloween films.
Carpenter's Halloween is my all-time favorite horror film, and I didn't think it needed updating/remaking/re-imagining. I still feel that way today. Instead, I wanted a sequel to Resurrection that picked up where it left off (Michael waking up). Then, you could've had a setting reminiscent to Halloween 2, which would've been really interesting to see.
So, basically I'm saying: I will never watch Zombie's Halloween remakes.
