My reasoning is in how he conveyed the details; it wasn't the fact he mentioned the security company in and of itself, but that it was the most specific thing he mentioned in the post.
Basically, I asked myself "why bring that up instead of reasons why you joined this specific forum? It's not exactly well-known." I could understand not specifying how he found this horror board and why he joined it out of all the others out there, if he brought up the genre right off the bat, but he didn't. And saying he joined "three other forums" without specifying what they were (and where he found any of the forums for that matter) just makes his introduction sound all the more like a salesman trying to look generic and non-confrontational. In this case, the guy crossed from sounding non-confrontational to "detached."
