Day # 5 - Sabbath Day! Original & Remake Review
April Fool's Day(1986) IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090655/
"April Fool's!!!!"
The movie starts with eight rich kids getting on a ferry to their heiress friend Muffy's house on April 1st for the weekend. (We have; the slutty blonde, jock, innocent blond, film boy, political boy, drug boy, smart boy and smart girl.) An april fool's prank goes wrong, leaving a ferryman hideously disfigured. They brush it off and set out to have a fun weekend, but when they get settled into the house they realise it's renovated to prank; collapsing chairs, dribble glasses, taps that spray you in the face, whoopee cushions, exploding cigars etc. There are also weird 'clues' strewn about the house, newspaper clippings, pictures with moving eyes and things like that. They start being picked off one-by-one, but who will figure out the mystery? Who would want all these brats dead?
Medium gore, a few good scares and the whole movie kind of plays out like a game of clue. My copy of this film has loud music, quiet voices syndrome, but I still really enjoyed it.
The ending is what makes this a classic, I know I'll be watching this one every April 1st.
Excellent concept, awesome ending!

"If this ends up on the inter-web, i will have you raped by a wizard! And that's a promise"
The remake starts out similarly. We are introduced to our less 80's version of a similar cast. The hostess Desiree, her brother, the political couple, débutante, and film boy. It's been shortened to 7, with ms. innocent blonde coming in as the last member of this elite circle. It seems the druggie wasn't needed for the remake, being replaced by a really tan weirdo named Charles. "smart boy and smart girl" have switched leading roles with the spoiled and hated Cartier siblings Desiree and Blaine, who are notorious for stupid pranks, mean tricks and being rich and spoiled. Desiree is holding a young, innocent débutante named Torrance on April 1st, when one of Desiree's pranks goes horribly wrong, Killing one of the young guests.
The film fast forwards to a year later, when mysterious notes bring the six remaining elite together at the deceased gravestone. The dead girl mails them a letter, basically telling them that if someone doesn't come forward everyone dies. So they die, one by one. The ending isn't the same twist as the original, but it's still spectacular! The butcher brothers directed this, and its a great ride. Lots of suspense, but not too much gore. It's a great re-make!
