But the evil picture of Man Ray was suppose to show that I'm evil, threatening and crazy.

It's so cute when they have high hopes... high in the sky apple pie hopes. *pat pat*
I spent my morning thinking of you Freddy... to the sweet dulcet sounds of A-Ha, Tears for Fears, Terence Trent Darby, Billy Idol, Queen, Huey Lewis and the News, Chicago/Peter Cetera, the Eurythmics Michael Ja... *continues on mumbling a list of the 80's on Sirius playlist as she wanders away in auditory overload*

I spent my morning listening to an 80s radio station that played 80's music. It felt like high school when they played Modern English… even though my high school never played that band. That didn't stop me from loudly singing it to annoy my roommate.

Sing it loud and proud Freddy! I was! Granted... I was alone in my car, but the principle is the same! Though 80's tunes remind me of elementary school more than high school. lol

Sobriquet: Any given 90's song reminds me of high school but I like to believe in the delusion that I lived in the 80's. That's why people think I'm crazy!
Fish: I love that song. So beautiful and catchy. Reminds me eating at our drive-in and later seeing a movie at our theater with my friends. Yeah, my friends and I were very retro.

Heh, I have a sister who is quite a bit older, so I grew up listening to a lot of Do Wop, Elvis, Folk Music and Skiffle. Actually radio stations back then weren't specialised. You might hear a Perry Como or Sinatra song followed by the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Young people these days never hear anything outside the box they dial in. It's a pity.

Sometimes I have wished I was born back then... things were so much simpler. Obviously, I was not a very popular kid. hahaha. And I totally agree with you about the radio stations these days. In all aspects of life, the kids today are tube fed and grow fat and lazy (metaphorically) because of it.

I love old classic old school rock 'n roll and Doo-Wop. I was one of the few kids in any of my school that actually knew who Fats Domino, Bobby Darrin or Bill Haley was. Today's generation probably never heard of Perry Como.

Sometimes I have wished I was born back then... things were so much simpler. Obviously, I was not a very popular kid. hahaha. A lot of things weren't so great back then. I remember every Monday at noon they would test the air raid siren. The 60s were full of cold war tension, and the threat of a nuclear exchange with the Soviet Union was very real. There were race riots in Watts and Chicago. Once you turned 18, all males had to register for the draft. I knew a lot of guys who were drafted and shipped over to Vietnam. If a guy had long hair, it ensured harassment from the police. Disneyland would bar you from admission if you were a "hippie type''. Even a small amount of pot was a class 1 felony and you couldn't vote until you were 21. It was much tougher for a woman to find a job, but the man made enough on his salary to support his family. If you were gay, society, in general shunned you and you might be prosecuted for , what was then, felony acts. A lot of things were simpler, and decent paying jobs were easy to find. In general everything was cheaper and there were plenty of outdoor recreation. There was lots of wide open spaces back then, you knew your neighbors, and didn't have to lock your doors at night. College tuition was very affordable, anything with a company logo was complimentary, and hitch hiking was common and relatively safe. Things have really changed, and not all of it for the better.

Hmmm... Where to begin?
Freddy! Woop for Modern English, and it cracks me up that your High School never played them. We heard "I Melt With You" at EVERY dance, even though the song was already 15 years old. Sobie! I love you. It just needs to be said. Captain! "Sh Boom Sh Boom" ALWAYS makes me think of the movie "Clue." One of the greatest films of our generation... LOL I'd add something more profound to the conversation, but I tend to end up on the soap box and it takes a live grenade to get me down. Just ask Sobie.

That's where I was first exposed to 50's music was from Clue. I loved the movie since. I wished, and even requested, my high school and middle school administrator to play some Jerry Lee Lewis but when they did everybody booed it off. Truly, I was the only person who was brought up on strict, 50's, conservative parenting techniques. Every now and then I think I would have done better, popularity wise, in a 50's setting than I would today.
As for "I Melt With You." I've been saving that song for when I get the chance to dance with the person I love. Sadly, high school has passed and that was when I wanted to do it. Now, it will just seem tacky.

First, that song will NEVER be tacky! It's far too awesome to be tacky. It will just be retro and epic when you finally dance with your sweety to it.
Second, I know precisely how you feel. My Dad was born in 1924 in the Bronx—good old fashioned first generation Italian. I was raised conservative, Catholic, and... well... Italian. I went through High School with people asking me if I was going to become a nun... and with everyone thinking my Dad was my Grandfather. :reddisgust: Needless to say, I've come out of my shell. exdev:
