I feel the same way. No matter how nice your home setup may be, it wouldn't make the movie as good as the time you watched it in theaters. Oh, and I enjoyed Cloverfield in theaters as well.

Although, that didn't stop me from buying Paranormal Activity... just in case some of my friends haven't seen it.

I caught PA at the theaters while the buzz was building but before the full release. It was a mostly young, responsive crowd that oooh'd and gasped and murmurred all through the movie. Even without that, you could pretty much guess where all the standard genre hits were going to come. And in spite of that, there were still a few times when it caught me with something that sent a trickle of a chill up my back.
The tough part about being a movie like PA (or Blair Witch before it) is living up to all the ridiculous hype and hyperbole that people heap on it. though I imagine if the genre wasn't so anemic right now, PA might not be such a big deal: when you're starving, even Spam might taste like steak.
It's certainly not the "scariest movie EVAH," but it's not a bad little film.

As I stated, the hype really killed this movie. Plus, I heard the original ending is better than the one Speilberg wanted.

The Blair Witch Project would have failed in my eyes whether there was hype surrounding it or not.

Rumor is that they shot quite a few - like around ten - endings, but only one was making it onto the DVD.

I think the same would go for Cloverfield as well. Although, personally, I would have loved that movie either way.

I really think it depends on what scares you. I find the Exorcist boring. And although I like most horror, it is not really scary. But I know what scares me and it is ghosts and crap. Esp hauntings happening in the home. I liked the movie, but can see if it is not your thing. Maybe the sheets moving is totally transparent to some, but I have been thinking about it the past few nights. The worst thing about that movie is that most of it takes place in a bedroom and I have one of those!

I didn't see it coming when she got jerked out of the bed, drug down the hallway, and the door slammed shut, separating her from her boyfriend. I was like "Oh, shit!"
On a side-note, I love The Exorcist. If I had a time machine, I would go back to when that flick was released in theaters.

I would give my left nipple to see The Exorcist in the theaters back in the 70s.
What I didn't see coming was when that loud noise erupted and they went downstairs to see the chandelier shaking. That shit was freaky.

Yeah I forgot about that one. Also, when the light and stuff would just pop on in that closet or whatever it was, all while they're sleeping. The whole powder thing was a pretty cool idea, too.

Hell yeah. That's because back then you had never seen stuff like that. That's why that movie could never be remade. I'm sure a remake would be huge, but it wouldn't be no where near as effective as it was back then. Not to mention, how much more blasphemous could you go?

I didn't find the movie scary, like...AT ALL...nothing ever happens in that movie, I really CAN'T understand what all the fuss is about, I've watched alone in the dark(little reference there...) but it gave me nothing...

The hype ruined it.

I still maintain that, if you didn't pay attention to the hype it would have been way better. But then again, a lot of people hate the found footage genre.
