OK, the quick and dirty on "Shutter Island."

Wow.

I think about the only bad thing I can say about this movie is that the score was a little overbearing in parts. Other than that, I think the best way to describe this would be as "riveting." Leonardo DiCaprio - who can be pretty hit or miss with me - is virtually unrecognizable and pitch-perfect in his role as US Marshall, Teddy Daniels. The supporting cast are all rock solid. Beautifully shot. A few interesting effects.

And the story...

Let me say this about the story - avoid spoilers. Avoiding reading about the plot. Go in with the idea of letting it unfold for you. It is a treasure to discover.

Oh, and while it may look somewhat horror-ish, it's not. Psychological thriller is more like it. Some slight gore. Some disturbing images - particularly if you're a parent. All in all, very good. A full review will come later.

Looks like there is a horror movie that I need to see soon.

My buddy and I always cracked jokes when Leo said "... for the criminally insane" because it just seemed so out of place. Although, that doesn't stop us from wanting to see it.

It really does make sense in context. They really cut the trailer to make the movie seem a little faster paced than it is. It's still a great movie.

Oh yeah. Trailers are notorious for doing stuff like that.

Like I threw out before, it's not so much a horror movie as it is a psychological thriller. They definitely cut the trailer like a horror movie but the movie itself is decidedly not. Scorsese really goes back and digs up thriller chops I don't think I've seen since his remake of Cape Fear. Some of it is trippy - almost Kafkaesque - and there are some neat effect, but it's not really a horror movie.

It looked like a psych thriller but a lot of people who are in the horror business are liking it. I'm not letting that dictate my emotions towards it.

I saw it, thought it was very well made and looked great. All the parts were well performed too, however I did feel that the film's ending was a little lacking in my own opinion. I still encourage people to go see it though since it was a well made film and might find the ending to be more enjoyable then I did.
