So has anyone else checked out this new series on TNT made by Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg? I'm kind of hooked now. I don't even know WHY I'm hooked, but I am. The sci-fi geek in me rejoiceth.

Well, I care what happens to the characters so in my book, that makes it good. lol.
IMDB says: The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force. The lead character (Played by Noah Wyle if you watched ER, I didn't) is a father of three boys whose mother died in the initial invasion and his middle son was taken by the aliens (along with other kids) to become "harnessed" mindless work drones. His oldest fights with him while he tries to protect his youngest from the harshest of the realities. Will Patton is in it too as the military leader.

Sounds like The Walking Dead... but with Aliens instead of Zombies. LOL
Cool, Sobers. I'll have to check it out!

Well I typed out my own description and it just sounded so lame. So I stole the intro and expanded on my own. lol

I've seen the "first look" of this show and it looks okay. I like how they are focusing on how humans try to rebuild the world but it seems like it will offer nothing too new to the table. Still, I'm interested.

Deadline reported last week that TNT has renewed the show for a second season. Season 2 will premiere next Summer and will keep the 10-episode format.

There IS nothing new to be brought to the table. The kitchen is nothing but leftovers but that doesn't mean it's not compelling story telling.

UGH, I so HATE the 10 week season format. I miss the days of 22-25 week seasons. This 10 weeks once every 9-12 months is just not cool in my book at all. By the time it comes back they are lucky I haven't forgotten about the show altogether much less what happened on the last episode.

I'm surprised they didn't extend it to at least 12 or 13 - that is usually the norm for cable shows.

Well, you're not getting 20 week seasons because it's not a 30 minute SitCom. When they try to do drama (especially hour-long drama) in large chunks (20 or more weeks) and have it last more than one season, you start to get seriously shoddy writing—a bunch of corporate goons sitting around a conference table saying, "how can we stretch this out further? I know! Let's make some of the aliens ninja zombies and have them ride around on transforming robots we'll call... (drum roll) dislexicons!" *the boardroom cheers*
You wouldn't want THAT to happen to your show, would you?

LOL, Nice imagery. Of course I don't want that, but I remember the shows (how long dramas) growing up that I watched that would run 20 weeks and I didn't feel a lot of those ended up shoddy for it. I watch The Mentalist and they just ran a 20+ week season and it didn't get silly. I'm sure it's more to do with advertising dollars and cost control more than anything.

The crime-dramas are easy. They're entire plot line can change every week. And don't get me wrong, I really enjoy The Mentalist, but some of the stuff they pull on that show is WAY over the top. Way.

LOL
Like the episode in which he's temporarily blinded but has to drive the get-away car anyway. And the episode when he gets kidnapped (yeah... the whole episode was pretty over the top). And seriously... some of the shit he gets away with is totally wild. But I really like the show, so none of it bothers me. And none of it is NEARLY as cooky as the stuff that goes on in the show Castle, which I LOVE, so I'm totally not one to talk. All I'm saying is a lot of these shows that, by the end of the run of their series have A MILLION episodes, really end up with some pretty crazy episodes thrown into the mix.

LOL, oh yeah, the CSI ones just crack me up and if I didn't know that they base a lot of it on existing cases, I would worry about the sanity of the writers. lol
And I guess you are right sis. All of the longer run shows/seasons I remember, even growing up, were more episodic than serial. Still... I'm greedy and impatient when it comes to a good show... 10 weeks in a year is as bad as waiting a year for a book that you can read in two days. My life, spent in waiting! lol |
